Hey guys...what a day. Had a rear axle seal leaking, so I decided to tackle that this morning.
1st issue: to take the axle out I have to disconnect the brake lines from the rear caliper because the mount is attached to the brake disc cover which gets pulled out with the hub. I live in Canada so as you can imagine that connection basically rotted away from me while trying to undo it. Went to the auto parts store and got a new brake line to fabricate the replacement. This was on the passenger side so it was the longer hard line.
2nd issue: After doing that and starting to bleed the system brake fluid starting to piss everywhere under the truck...weird I was sure I had tightened the connection...Not sure how many people have looked at the routing, it seems there is in front of the fuel tank a pair of connections from hard brake lines (that run from the front of the truck), to flex lines (so the axle can bounce around as needed) and then hard lines that are tied down to the axle and go to the calipers. I must have looked at the damn thing to hard because it seems that I have a massive leak from the lines running from the front of the truck and connect to the flex lines in front of the gas tank. I can't see where the lines go, put based on the parts diagram they seem fairly long.
Does anyone know if the fuel tank is going to need to be dropped to replace this line? I guess its better that it happened when I was working on the truck vs driving, but damn this drives me nuts.
I think this is going to be beyond my skills/tools in the driveway. I really hate taking stuff to a garage, but this one seems beyond me.
