Brake Master Cylinder Pricing???

Unfortunately the Mechanics at TOYOTA told me that my Master Cylinder took a dump. So now I've got to start looking for one cheaper than TOYOTA OEM which is $1400. I just don't have that type of cash right now. So I'm trying to go the cheapest route, but on the safe side also.

Most brake master cylinders are over $1000. Have any of you guys found one at a cheaper price, besides a junkyard.

It's a 900 dollar diff. Should I go ahead and buy this? What are your guys thoughts???

Unfortunately, I don't think those Master Cylinders that are in the <$200.00 range, will work. At least if you want all of the safety systems built into the vehicle to work. And not have a bunch of warning lights permanently lit in the dash.

Later model 3rd gen 4Runner's like yours had traction control, ABS W/electronic brake force distribution W/assist, and vehicle stability control. All that necessitates the fancy $1000.00+ Master Cylinder.

My bad, that # is for the MC. The part # I gave you was for the brake booster.

Ask the guy about the MC rebuild kit (04493-35340) and see if he has ever done one. I don't know about having to replace the accumulator at the same time or not. I thought the ABS pump is built into the MC, but I could be wrong. Ask for a part #.

On car-part, there are a few on there for less than $100 but not many of them.

Not only the price, but we mere mortals cannot bleed these I don't think. My FSM indicates that a Toyota Tool is required to actuate all the solenoids to bleed the master and ABS system. I don't know if one of the Snap-On tools will do it or not.

The immortals at TOYOTA, 3 master mechanics couldn't even bleed my system. Ain't that a bummer. They could not get the abs pump to stop pumping. They need it to stop pumping in order to bleed the system....well, that's what they told me.

They wanted to replace the M.C.($1300) and ABS pump ass.($1500). That's just parts alone...Sounds fishy doesn't it.....

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but as mentioned, those things are serious money because they're not a "Normal" master cylinder and have so many functions tied to them besides just stopping the vehicle. Time to break out the credit card.
 
$1500.00 that better price than when I bought mine shop around I've seen them now for $1300.00.
You have options sell it get a car note, 2-3 months of notes pays for this, you only have 57 more to go. :)
