Brake Pad Clip

Just finished putting new rear pads on my truck and noticed when putting the old pads in the box that there is a clip located on one of the two pads

I was kinda rushing the job and did not noticed these clips until I was already done and was wondering if they really are needed? The pads I bought did not come with them but it looks like I could probably pry it off and move it over to the new pads but would require to tear everything apart again.

That looks like the brake wear indicator, it'll rub and squeal before the pad wears out and damages your rotor. It should be on your new pads, one pad on each side, can't remember inside or outside pad. Maybe you just didn't notice them when you installed?

I know for a fact that the new pads don't have it, they were packed back to back. I think it was the inside pad that this is on.

I guess just keep an eye on the pads, no biggie.

yes new oem pad do not come with new squeelers.. dont worry about it, just keep an eye on your pad wear..

not to be a downer but those pad look like they still got alot of meat on em

off topic one of my customers came in 120k on her original rear brakes. did the fronts a 100k:driving:

you know they did have a lot of meat on them but the right rear was squealing like crazy, my '03 did the exact same thing and had a decent amount of material left as well. I bought super cheap pads, just want something to be quiet until I replace everything in the summer

Those wear indicators actually come with the shim kit. I know, kind of weird huh? Anyhow, here's the part if you're curious: 04946-30100

if your pads have meat on them, and its squeaking then its not your pads...

Make sure where your pads sit on the caliper isn't rusted up like crazy! mines were so much so that they were seizing the pads from moving....

you might have to take it to a wire wheel to clean it up.
