Brake pad rec's

So the akebono pads I have in the front of my truck have deteriated very quickly, where they hardly have any grip at all. It isn't the rotors either. Anyone have some good rec's for brake pads and where to get them? By the way, they would need to be for the SR5 rotors (319mm I believe).

OEM is probably akebono. Those pads are only good at one thing and that's not producing any dust and being gentle on the rotor.

If you want some more performance. Try the new StopTech pads. They have more bite which means they are more responsiveness. Have more heat capacity, so they will have that higher performance for longer. Shims included to reduce noise.

if you don't know about Stoptech, they produce the TRD brakes.

I am very happy with my Akebonos and actually went with some other organic brakes and missed my Akebonos after just one month due to so-so brake performance and my wheels were dusty after less than 10 days,now I'm back to the ceramics and couldn't be happier.

I actually bought some Centric rotors from the Tirerack and Hawk pro ceramic pads for the front and the HPS street pads for the rear. I heard good things about both items. Total of $317.

Cj3---long time no talk! I will once I get some miles on them. I originally thought the akebonos were good and they ended up sucking hard. They haven't worn down at all, the the brembo rotors they were on have, which means the pads are too damn hard! 80k miles and no wear means they aren't good at stopping.

Are you saying that the original brake pads on the 4Runner are ceramic? I'm about 99% sure that mine are organic pads and they are still the original pads that came on my 4Runner when I purchased it new from the dealership.

BTW, I'm a big fan of Raybestos brake pads. Their Quiet Stop pads are excellent. They are long lasting, extremely low dusting, and obviously very quiet. I'll probably put a set on my 4Runner when my OEM pads finally wear out.

I have put their PG Plus rotors on a few other cars, and loved them. Those are some solid rotors! I have never tried their pads.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. After the whole "frozen caliper" issue, I now have the Centric Rotors, and Hawk pads installed (Ceramics up front, HPS in the rear). The stopping is nothing short of amazing. I highly rec'd this combo to anyone reaplcing their brakes. Total was about $360 shipped from Tirerack. No dusting so far, no squeeling either.
