Brake pad replacement due to noise

On my 4runner I currently have semi-metallic brakes and it is starting to make loud squeaking noises. I read somewhere in this forum recommending Wagner brakes and plan to replace my current brakes with them. I also read online that if you have brake pads with noise and just replace the pads the noise will come back unless the rotors are resurfaced or replaced. Is this true?

How long have your brake pads been on the truck? I would take one wheel off so you can check brake pad thickness. If due for a change of brake pads, it is suggested to either resurface or replace brake rotors at pad change intervals.

Agreed. I just replaced my pads as they were making HORRIBLE noises. Now my OEM pads (which I 'bedded') are starting to get pretty noisy as well. Really wish I'd have resurfaced the rotors.

I had some brake service done on my 03 back in April.

The rear pads and rotors needed to be replaced, so I went with the Wagner Perfect Stops.

My front brakes were starting to feel like they were a little stuck and sure enough the caliper pins were rusted and need a slider service.

I'd recommend planning on an annual brake service/inspection - especially for the calipers we have on our 4Runners.

Have been happy with the Wagners so far.

not really. if your brake pad is thin, that's only the warning sign that your brake pad is thin and should be replaced. if your rotor is still good, you can still use it even if you don't resurface it. if you have the funds, replace the rotor too if I were you.

I just had the inspection done a few months ago and the brake pads still had half the life left. I did not know they needed to be resurfaced for every brake pad change.

I decided on replacing the rotors than resurfacing them. The rotors I am debating on is made by Centric but I am unsure if I should go with C-Tek or premiums.

I replaced my rotor using Beck/Arnley, premium. so far, I'm happy with it. make sure to measure your diameter. I would think any other rotor would be good depending on your budget.

So I just placed an order for Centric premium because they were on wholesale closeout for $16 I was at first going for 338mm since I have OEM 17" wheels since thats how toyota parts organizes them by but when I checked the calipers it said 13wg and was glad I did not go with them.
