Brake pedal click??

I am new owner of 05 4Runner. I am not used to ABS and 4 wheel Disc.

My old vehicles did not have these features.

When I brake I feel a click in the pedal. I took it into the dealer at 3oo miles and they said this is normal. Is it normal???

They say it is part of the assisted braking. The click feeling I feel is the assisted braking kicking in and helping me brake. Is this true??

Thanks so much for everyones input.

If it's just a click, it should fade over time as the truck breaks in.

When I first got my 03, the brake pedal vibrated with an electronic buzz every 3-4 times I pressed it. I called a few dealers and some said it was normal, others not.

I looked through the manual carefully and concluded that what was happening in my case was not normal. So I took it in and handed the service advisor copies of pages in the manual with everything high-lighted regarding buzzes, clicks, vibrations, alarms, etc.

They replaced the master cylinder assembly. Problem gone. However, I could still feel an occasional "click" when braking but over time it has faded. It's just the booster-assist-thingamajiggy doing it's job.

Seems to be normal.

I did not add to the thread that I took the vehicle back to the dealership the same week to investigate the problem. They said it was normal. The Brake assist is causing this click or vibration in the pedal. I was told Toyota is going to remove this feature in new models due to all the griping from consumers.

I just wanted evryones opinion before I make a judgement.

My final though is that the click feeling is normal. If that many otehr people are feeling this too, then it has got to be normal.

Maybe there is something wrong with the 4Runners that are not feeling this clicking sensation???? Have it checked it out.

I think the average driver doesn't even notice it.... every 4th gen I've driven does it though.

I recently took ownership of a late model 03, black 4runner. This forum has been excellent and very useful. I can't say enough about the 4th gen 4runner. I test drove several other suv's, and then the 4runner, and no comparision. Absolutely amazing how smooth and solid it is compared to the other suv's.

I have searched the brake pedal click issue, and noticed some are experiencing it when braking, or it is inconsistent, or some other type of feeling. - so I am still somewhat confused on what mine is doing.

My click (both felt and heard) only occurs when I release the brake pedal. Not when I apply the brakes, but on the way back up. It does this with and without the enging running, and every time upon release, not just occasionally. There is no vibration or other feeling, just the "click".

I know that this has been posted, but I read that the pedal clicks when braking, not when releasing the pedal (as mine does). It is somewhat annoying, but curious if other's click when releasing the brake pedal, and is this something I just have to live with.

Thanks in advance, and again, this forum is great.

I realize that this is an old thread, but I figured I'd check and see if there has been any resolution to the brake pedal click upon release of the brake.

I can brake just fine, but when releasing the brake, just before the brake hits the natural up position, it "clicks" into place. It can be felt and heard and it only appears to happen if it is hot out or on long trips where the brakes are used frequently.

I have tried crawling under the dash while pressing the pedal and I could hear the click, but I couldn't find it if my life depended on it. If anyone else has heard this or fixed this, feel free to post.

Thanks,
Tom
