OK, so when I recently bought my 2004 SR5 I noticed a strong pulsation under hard braking (and got the seller to drop the price accordingly). I've felt warped rotors before and was sure this was the problem. No big, I ordered some rotors from RockAuto and slapped them on... and... (you experienced 4th Gen guys know what's coming)...
found a seized caliper (and a nastily unevenly worn pad right next to it).
Now ordering and installing new (reman) calipers and pads is no big deal, but I'm kicking myself for probably wasting money on rotors. The ones I pulled out were 26.7mm thick with a min thickness of 26, while the new ones were 28mm even. So I figure I could have run the old ones for quite a while yet.
Anyway, I'm consoling myself that rotors/calipers/pads is the "right" way to do a brake job, but still feel foolish for my off the cuff - and wrong - diagnosis.
PS. Just getting Centric everything (rotors/calipers/pads). I've had good results with them in other vehicles, but would be willing to try something else if the accumulated wisdom here says another brand is better.
