Aloha guys,
I'm looking for a full on brake kit for my 2011 Trail Edition. I like the idea of the Powerstop Z36 but I don't want drilled and slotted rotors, I do enough offroading and just driving on dirty, wet, sandy roads that it seems like a bad idea.
I also just got a rooftop tent that weighs around 100-150 lbs and I definitely feel it when braking and cornering :heh:
I like the idea of beefing up the brakes but definitely want coated rotors as I live in far off across the rainbow the end of the rust belt aka Hawaii lol.
I would love to just do pads and rotors but at least two sides of my calipers (both driver) have sticking calipers. I know because I pulled the pads to inspect and could not compress lower inside piston on front and the piston on rear. Pads are also worn more on driver side which would indicate and there's some shake braking at 60mph so I'm sure rotors are warped from brakes dragging. I'm not surprised the truck did see some salt in it's early years and there's a bit of corrosion on the calipers and rotors.
So of course I will have to do both sides. So I need everything.
I don't really want to fork out the dough for Toyota calipers and rotors. Seems like there's more affordable options that are coated and hopefully will hold up better here. I've also heard common issues with warping on the Toyota rotors. I'd grab the Blue pads though if I have to order it all in pieces.
Ideally I'd like to find an affordable full kit with coated rotors, powder coated calipers, and some nice pads with pins and clips and grease all included. I don't even know if that exists and I'm having trouble finding it so I thought I'd make a post.
Unfortunately Powerstop doesn't seem to have any upgrade kits with calipers that aren't drilled and slotted. I'm not crazy about the red calipers as I have a black and bronze trim and wheel runner. Their kits with coated rotors aren't available with calipers and the one's with calipers are all drilled and slotted.
Maybe I just have to piece it all together but it sure would be sweet to get it all in one kit and know that it's all compatible 100%
As I mentioned a little beefier kit would be nice with the tent on the roof now, and some serious hillage around here extra stopping power would help.
I've already got fluid and have flushed it recently so I'm comfortable with bleeding the brakes when the time comes.
