So i finally did my brakes today, changed the front rotors. I decided not to do the Tundra brake upgrade as the cost just was not justified seeing I only spent $36 for two new rotors and i only drive 5000- 6000 km a year.
so i had some time and some of my equipment handy so i decided to do some measurements on the rotors. Last year i did a hard brake to avoid a deer and came to a dead stop from 100km- zero, and i knew i imprinted the rotors as i have been having vibration issues when braking above 60km/h.
So in summary, This is what i found
1. I had roughly 0.004" of variation for the old imprinted rotor
2. 0.001" of variation for the new rotors.
You can see from the shot below where the brake pad imprinted a pattern on the rotor.
I was surprised that such a small variation would cause that much vibration. The rotor thickness was almost the same as the new ones. See pics below.
I took a video of the runout for the old rotors showing the variation when turning, I'll clean up and upload soon.
