New front pads & rotors, now clunks at stop

Pretty much what it says: changed the front pads and rotors, and now it brakes smoothly right up until that last fraction of a mph, then there's a pretty good clunk as it just drops anchor.

I can't seem to make it stop all the way quietly going forward. No issue in reverse. I didn't touch anything other than the lugs, brake calipers and the little bolt that holds the brake line bracket on, so I'm hoping this is just a case of needing to wear the brakes in a bit. Not my first rodeo with disc brakes, but IIRC, I never replaced pads and rotors myself at the same time on anything bigger than a compact sedan. (My Escape got wrecked before I got to them, and my Blazer came with a spare set of rotors, so I always got the ones coming off turned and saved them for next time. The $700 Saturn had enough creaks and clunks that I wouldn't have noticed this.)

Got shoes and the hardware kit for the rears, but I've not done drums in long enough that I'm going to wait for the weekend to tackle that. Then plugs, wires, coil packs and injectors.

All this because I need the clockspring (airbag light came on, then cruise control and horn quit over the next couple days) and decided to order my "to do" list of things that aren't giving me real problems yet, but that I don't know the history of and don't want to find out about on the side of some lonely rural highway...or in the case of brakes, at 75 with a sudden need to stop.

...and then I realized last night that I hadn't ordered the clockspring, so the part that triggered it all will have to wait until sometime next week.

could be your pads hold down hardware not correct or not installed correct and allowing pads to move and clunk.

Looks like I probably just didn't get all the shipping grease off the rotors, or else had too much dirty hand gunk on the parts. Once traffic cleared up enough to get it out on the highway and do a couple slow 60-0 stops to burn everything off, it cleared up completely.

Guess that also confirms the shimmy at low speeds was a warped rotor, since it's completely gone now.

Got to grab a couple more things this morning, then let the rear brakes cool off and get the new shoes and hardware in them.
