Brake Troubles...

Hey guys, I can't seem to get the brakes right on my 96 Ltd. 4x4...

This will be the third time in about 30k miles that i'll have to have new shoes on the rear and new pads up front...

I'm on my second set of rotors and they'll need to be turned and this is the first set of new drums but they don't seem to be stopping at all...

The last time I had to change everything was because the rear bearing/seal failure gummed up the rears really bad and pretty much ruined the springs/pins... Then I rode around stopping on just the fronts, which led to them wearing out prematurely... Now I've got another seal leaking on one side of the rear... the fronts are squealing again and I'm broke!!:bash:

What set-ups are ya'll running? OEM? Aftermarket? Pads, rotors, shoes, drums, give me some advice...

So guys help me out, what am I missing, where am I going wrong? :sadwave:

Please help me put a stop to this brake issue... (no pun intended)

Ebc

I have slotted EBC rotors in the front w/ EBC greenstuff pads and they feel great and have held up well over 25k miles. However, I too just had a rear seal go out, so my rear boots are toast. :nono: Parts are on the way to change out the seal. I'll get the new shoes on @ that point too.

My brake setup...

Front: Brembo slotted and vented rotors, EBC GreenStuff pads

Rear: Brembo (yes, Brembo makes 'em) drums, OEM shoes

Have had these on my truck since January 2010, and have about 30k on them. I had the same issue when replacing OEM setups at 20k intervals... way way way too pricey, especially getting done at the dealer. I've noticed zero warping problems with my setup so far, and it cost about 75% of what I had been 'used' to paying for a new brake job. These are heavy trucks with undersized stoppers. What are you running now? Just OEM replacements?

If i had it to do over, however, i would do the Tundra brake swap. Those are more the size that these trucks should have up front.

kregg-curious what the issue turned out to be... yes I see the thread is very old.

It's my initial guess that the rears were way out of adjustment.
