The brakes on my 4runner need attention, the rotors feel like they are warped....pulsing badly. I've read that the brakes on our 4runner's are a weak spot. What type of real upgrades are there?
There aren't any...The pulsating you feel may NOT be rotors...but a stuck caliper. The caliper on these vehicles use 4 pistons. And if ONE or TWO of the pistons freeze...it'll cause the same pulsating feel as a warped rotor.
I have just over 230k miles on my 05 4runner and now on my 3rd set of replacement calipers.
If you the stoptech setup you will need 18in rims to clear the calipers. TRD (rebranded stoptech kit) has another similar set up but it is smaller and uses a 1 piece rotor. however those set ups cost upwards up $1800. A more cost effective upgrade are stainless steal brake lines, dot 4 brake fluid and good pads, currently I am using trd pads. For rotors I'm using centric premium rotors. I have had very good results on this set up both on the road and on the track.
There are DIFFERENT rotors and pads you can buy...but NOT necessarily BETTER. And I've yet to see a different caliper. Calipers are the problems...NOT the rotors. And I'll take NON-slotted or drilled rotors over slotted or drilled rotors any day.
What kind of calipers should we buy? And how much $$$ cause I'm broke! I have a horrible horrible pulsing jerking feeling when I'm stopping. But I think I also have a very badly out of balanced tire. Could this actually be the calipers sticking?

Any rebuilt as long as they are lifetime warranty.... NAPA is what I use for mine.... When they fail again they can be swapped out for a replacement for no cost.....
