BRAKES: Question

Hello:

There have been a number of brake replacement posts in the past; however, I have specific caveat questions to what I could find with the FINE T4R Precision Search Engine.

1 - Has anyone considered flexible, DOT, braided steel brake lines at the attachment point , (wheel well area)? It is said to provide greater consistancy of brake pedal feel as the rubber hose counterpart is said to flex and absorb brake line pressure.

2 - Has anyone replaced the rotors with aftermarket upgrades thatare a) drilled and/or b) slotted?

3 - Can anyone suggest or recommend brake pads?

Comments: I read more than my "practical experience" entails.

I have 53k on my original brakes. (...snort, I never use them ...ha ha ha). I thinks it's time to think about maint.

The steel braided lines will give you a tigher feel because they wont give under pressure. I have not used slotted or drilled rotors but when I redid my Maxima's brakes I used Brembo blanks with ceramic pads...what a HUGE difference. A lot of guys on my Maxima forum didnt like the slotted and drilled rotors because they made too much noise and no one was really racing (which they were originally intended for). I think if you did SS lines, good ceramic or equal pads and a quality blank rotor (brembo or baer) you will feel a massive difference.

I know Axxis and Hawk both make great pads. Keep in mind that ceramics wont dust as much...which mean cleaner wheels.

I am not sure on the fluids. I would assume a synthetic would serve you well. When you build pressure (by pressing on the brake pedal) you build heat...so I would assume that a sythetic will hold up to a lot more abuse. Maybe some of the other people can enlighten you more, but that is my experience.

Stick with what's required and recommended. IIRC, it's not a good idea to put synthetic brake fluid in a system that's not originally filled with synthetic due to the seals and lines being different.
