Brakes & Tire Pressure

Two issues:
1. I have read that others have had problems with "mushy" brakes but I have the opposite problem.
Purchased my 06 Limited 4Runner last April and from day one had a problem with the sensitivity of the brakes.
At first it would pull drastically when brakes applied. Dealer replaced the calipers and it does not pull but just touching the brakes is like slamming them on and my concern is with winter driving. Dealer said all 4Runners are like this. Rear brakes were squealing and just had the pads replaced and the rotars machined. 40,000k (Still squealing off and on)
Anyone else have a problem with brake sensitivity and/or a solution?
2. My tire pressure warning sensor keeps coming on but pressure in tires is fine. Started in cold weather. Is this a common problem?

The brake sensitivity does not sound normal. In my opinion, the brake feel on my '03 is about the best as far as 'feel' of any vehicle I have driven.

As for the tire pressure warning, have you checked your spare? It has a sensor, along with the four on the floor, and the system monitors it. With the onset of colder weather, it may be under pressure now, and causing the warning.

I can't comment on the brakes but I had the same thing happen with the TPS system last Friday. Overnight temps dropped into the low single digits and it was enough to trip the light on the dash. I checked the tires they all read 29#, once the temp warmed up to around 30 degrees the light went off on it's own. I believe I read that the TPS system trips the light at 27#; my gauge probably has a +/- 3-4 # tolerance depending on temp anyway so I went ahead and aired them up to 34# just to keep it from happening again.

Were your past vehicles rear brakes drums? If so, then you might not be use to the difference between rear drums and rear discs. There is a big difference when braking with rear drums and rear disc brakes.

The 4runner also has EBD (electronic brake distribution). This kicks in during panic braking (suddenly switching from gas to brake). Maybe this feature is faulty and functioning constantly?

As for your tire pressure, check your spare. Also, depending on where you live, elevation and cold temps can cause your tire pressure to fluctuate. When I travel to the snow peak mountains, my tire pressure light will turn on after a few hours. Once I am back to sea level, it turns off.
