Brakes -which is which

SO, I just did a break job and I have a few questions about which pad is which.

I think I matched the pads as they were in my car, but I noticed the new pads had an L on them and the Caliper had an R....and that doesn't seem kosher.

So here is a picture of the old pads, and how I they were in my car (I guess I don't trust the last mechanic that worked on it)...and how they are now in my car. IF they are wrong I haven't driven it so I can definitely switch them up before I break them in. Help is much appreciated.

For spatial clarification, the small metal arms on the outer pad point currently point to the ground.

Those small metal arms are the pad wear indicators. They are designed to hit the face of the rotor before the pad wears completely out, and start squeaking to give you an audible warning to check your pads. They are designed to be 'pulled' when they contact the rotor not 'pushed' when the rotor is turning in the forward direction, and as such they should be in the up position if the caliper is mounted trailing the rotor. Who ever initially installed the set of pads you removed, installed them incorrectly. I would reverse the outer pads so they are mounted correctly. The wear indicator tabs on the inner pads are also supposed to be oriententated in the up position.
