Brakes

Hey, I spellt it rite...

I have a 2011 that's in need of new rotors and pads. I splurged on my wife's FJ and got all toyota parts for her brake job and the damn things are warped again. That was a $400+ brake job less than two years ago and they are no better now than the AutoZone crap they replaced.

So, do I try again with toyota rotors, or are those brake "kits" on amazon any better? I don't need nor really want slotted or drilled, but I think that's all they sell. I will NOT go back to AutoZone for them, that's for sure...

Any other suggestions?

People on here saying raybestos and akebonos are fine. I used Toyota OEM.

Slotted brakes are a bad idea for an off road vehicle.

I've always went with Bosch ones on Amazon. No problems yet.

You sure they not just warped from morons tightening the lug nuts with impacts?

I'll use OEM next time. I just put on EBC's Green Stuff 7000s on the front and the dust like the desert. I've used them on so many other vehicles and they were great but on the 4R, dust. However, they stop amazing!

Good brakes dust a lot. It's a feature not a bug.

You sure they not just warped from morons tightening the lug nuts with impacts?

I use the impact wrench to take them off, but I hand tighten the lugs to 90 ft/lbs every 5k with the tire rotation. I may be a moron, but I haven't over torqued them.

I use Bosch rotors and pads on my wifes Highlander and my DD Accord. No issues yet on either.

I thought I'd do the "smart thing" and went to the stealership for pad and rotor replacement. Not impressed. Still squeak to this day on initial startup. YMMV

I kinda got to enjoy the squeaking. Reminds me of my old SS mountain bike with cable brakes.

I had a local Alignment shop with 8 lifts do my brakes two years ago. They allowed me to supply the parts.

I used Rotors that were made in China - but purchased at a good parts store with 100 years of parts buying experience - and they worked great. And yes. The rotors were cheap.

If your front calipers are bad don't try rebuilding them yourself. Get an AM brand like Cardone. Cardone | Calipers

Calipers have to be rebuilt by professionals IMO.

With parts and labor (their lift and mechanics that work 9/5 7 days a week) it cost me about $300/400, but the brake job was excellent. I have 2005 SR5 4runner (150,000 miles).
