Brakes

Has anyone upgraded their brakes from the SR5's to the one's that come with the Sport or Limited. I started thinking about the extra weight I'm putting on my runner and thought bigger brakes may be necessary. I have 17" inch rims, and looking at the calipers and rotors it looks like an easy upgrade. Any suggestions?

Erich,

I read on one of the forums that somebody did it. It should be an easy swap.

AlexJet has a huge rig and he doesn't complain about the brakes, I'm pretty sure he's riding on the SR5 brakes. The other thing is once you do go to the bigger brakes many 16" rim options are gone. If Africa and 16" tire availabilty are still concerns I don't know that I would go for the bigger diameter brakes. If I had to upgrade brakes I'd spend money on some high quality slotted (not drilled) rotors and TRD or EBC (or similar) pads. Just a thought.:D

Chris,
Yeah, I was thinking of the 16"rims too. Still not 100% about changing from the 17" rims. I found TRD makes a brake kit for just about every other vehicle Toyota sells except for the 4Runner. The TRD kits are very expensive, but I'm sure they have been thoroughly tested. I wonder if a Tacoma Prerunner kit would fit a 4Runner. I also saw a few posts over on the 120 forum about Tundra brakes, rotors and caliper upgrades/mods. I'm not a mechanical engineer, but I thought there were some issues concerning wheel weight. Anyway this would be on my wish list. I just ordered a set of SW rock sliders and will need to buy some bud built skids in the near future. Off topic, but I wonder why Shrockworks doesn
