UPDATE: Braking clunk when in reverse

Hey everyone. When ever I put the runner in reverse then apply the brakes I hear a clunk noise. My concern is that this could be a big problem.
Does anyone have experience with this? Should I worry about it?

ok so I just wanted to ask if that instead of a clunk i would describe it as a click. would that change anything?

Could also just be the pads shifting. I get a metal clank the first time I brake in either direction. (Forward/Reverse). It's normal.

Pad shift. Mine do it all the time. I haven't taken them apart yet, but it seems to be a "non" issue. There are supposedly some spring retainers that get installed with pads, which are often discarded during brake changes, that keep the pad play to a minimum.

I too hear this as well, not every time but it is really concerning, glad to hear it isn't a something critical!

If it's a "click" then you're looking at a trans re-build..































not srs...

The nature of the sound from pad shift can change depending on how dirty/clean, hot/cold your brake system is.. Sometimes I hear "clank". Sometimes is not as metallic sounding. Sometimes I hear nothing at all..

well i know its not the trans. its in the linkage some where

It's possible it is the parking brake shoes. When they loosen up, they will bind and clunk or click (depending how loose they are) when backing up. Very common. Adjust the parking brake shoes with the adjuster behind the drum and it should go away.
