Braking Issue (possible ABS)?

Hey guys,

So recently I dropped off my car to get Inner/Outer tie rods and Lower ball joint done. After getting it back the car started to have this weird issue. Whenever I am coming to a stop, I apply pressure to the brake pedal and towards the end of the stop the car makes this noise and the wheel jerks a little. You also slightly lose brake peddle pressure for the second. (feels kinda like ABS kicks in for a second)

I brought it back to the shop and they tired cleaning the speed sensor and bleeding the brake lines...the issue is still there.

Here is the video of it:

Anyone know what is causing this issue?
The vehicle is a 2001 4Runner with 172k miles.

That sound it's making is weird. Maybe it's the brake booster. The fact that your vehicle wasn't doing this before the shop did the work leads me to believe they did something screwey. Yes, there are coincidences but logic says they did something.

If they used the BFH (Big F*cking Hammer) technique of breaking the outer tie rod free of the knuckle of the lower balljoint, maybe the mechanic missed with one of his strikes and smashed the ABS sensor. The sensor plugs into the knuckle very close to the outer tie rod. Take a look at both of your ABS sensors and see if either one looks smashed.

Yeah I have a strong feeling its the ABS sensor as well, I will take a look into it and keep you guys posted.

Thanks!

test the sensor should be between 1.0 - 1.4 kΩ. you can also disconnect the abs fuse but will have to unscrew from the bottom and you need to remove the inner tray of the fusebox and unscrew the fuse before removing then test drive safely to see if you still have the noise.

The shop in San Jose said that they put on sensors from another car and the issue still persisted.

That it may be the rear brakes causing the issue? not sure how accurate that is....

I hate to revive this super old thread, but I'm experiencing the EXACT same issue. Was there a resolution? My thoughts were the same to replace the ABS sensors on the knuckle, but maybe that's not the move?
