brand new engine is froze before ever starting once

Hi, im new to this site. I bought a brand new rebuilt engine from the engine store in tualitin oregon. Had a mechanic install it. Let me say my truck sat for 4 years. It had new oil pump, new timing belt, new thermostat, all new fluids, new clutch, new spark plugs put in with new engine. When I tried to start it , it cranked over for mabey 20 sec. Then acted like it wanted to start for a few seconds. At that point as I turned the key it was like it was loosing power to start. slowing way down like the battery was dying ( but the battery is new and totally charged) then it sounded like the starter clicked and I heard a small clank sound. After all this my engine will not turn over at all. Can't even hand crank it. Only about half inch back and fourth. Its locked up. Pulled spark plugs still will not do anything. I know for a fact this is a non interferance engine. We have talked to many mechanics with completly suprised looks an their face. No one seems to know what it could be. This whole starting thing took less than 30 seconds total before it locked up. ??? Any help would be appritiated. Thanks

Has it sat for 4 years after the rebuilt was installed? Never started by the installer or owner after installation?

Just had the work done. We were able to push it forwards and backwards out of.gear and with the clutch out. But thats about all we have done. We we're thinkin the starter to. Any other advice would be great. Toyota keeps telling me I got a defective engine. So im really trying to eliminate any other possablities. Thanks for your help. Really appritiated. Oh one more thing. When the mechanic was ready to try and start it I asked him if he had primed the oil pump. He told me this was not necessary On my engine?? I might be a girl but I am thinking he should have done that? Or should it be ok? Thanks for your help...

Did Toyota install it? What does the installer say? This is just a bit too strange to think the installer never even started it. I suspect he did and it seized which would mean he needs to make good on it.

I.had a mobile mechanich come to my home. He had me try to start it for the first time while he was watching the engine. I supervised the work somewhat but I know when I tried to start it it was the first time. I watched the last few hours, helped to put in the fluids and then this all happens. I did not watch the whole assembly and installation but I watched about 2/3 rds of it. I hear that allot...This is to wiered. .I have been told this may be the starter. But just really keep.hearing it's wiered.

Pull the starter and see if you can turn the engine over. If you can turn the motor then jump the starter and see if it works. One of those should not happen by your description, hoping for your sake it's the starter...

Have you considered vaporlock? Try pulling your plugs and seeing if they're wet.

i just bought a similar 4 runner the owner had everything rebuilt (spent alot of money on this motor) did not prime engine properly and used to much rtv on camshaft caps ran for about 3 min and seized up. i bought it and found out passenger side head was junk from no oil it takes a while for the oil to get there if it is not primed not to mention the cam was plugged.

Still haven't been able to pull starter yet.. but will b doing so tonight. I am thinking its locked to the flywheel....hopefully!!

Ok so pulled starter almost all the way but did not unbolt engine and lift to get completly out. Now the engine will hand crank back and forth about 1 and half feet at the end of a 1 1/2 foot wrench. If that makes any sence. We can hear it hitting something when it stops? Any advice? Thanks.. p.s. before it was locked up completly..only moved 1/2 inch in each direction.

So we pulled the new oil pump back out and the engine is free...turnes freely, so siezed oil pump is the virus in this case. I can't believe it! I am so relieved its not the engine. So now my question is...the Mechanic whom put it together did not prime it!! After I told him to...is this the cause if the issue?
