Brand New Paint question

Tommorow I will take delivery of my new '07 Black 4Runner Limited 4x4 V8.

I don't think I'll sleep much tonight!

I plan on driving this fine 4x4 for at least 10 yrs and I want to keep her looking as good as new for as long as possible.

My question is this. With the paint being really new, should I wax immediatley or wait a while? This 4 Runner rolled off the ship from Japan last week, so I guess the paint is only a few weeks old??? I have no idea.

I have heard paint is soft when it is new and you should not wax or do anything other than basic washing for the first several months to allow the paint to harden.

Also, when I wash, should I dry with a chamois, or will that scratch the new paint?

BTW, I just visited the autopia-carcare site but could not locate any forums. I thought they had a really big forum.

Any advice would be great!!!!!!

Since most manufacturers now use a bake process to bake the paint, your new paint should be cured already (the long transport time to the states also helps). So go ahead and start waxing! The only time you might want to wait is if you have a body shop repaint a panel or something. I've waxed every brand new car my family has gotten within the first week of ownership and no ill effects to date.

The site for autopia is: http://www.autopia.org

For drying, I would recommend a waffle-weave microfiber towel. You can find a lot of info on those over at autopia.

Congrats on your new 4Runner!
