Break-in on new 06?

Is there any break-in for the engine and the brakes?
When I bought my truck the salesman told me there is no break-in on the engine because it have vvti (i dunno but he is just a salesman not a mechanic) most car/trucks break-in period is like 500miles right? does that apply to the brakes as well? my truck currently have about 200miles.

Wow.

The break-in period and procedures are listed in the manual. It's nothing too special; vary the rpm's, no cruise control for hours on end, no huge extremes at first. No need to wuss it around or anything, just don't beat on it tooooo hard for the first little while. I believe 1,000 miles is the break-in listed in the manual, although the majority of the mechanical "break-in" is over in the first few hundred miles.

Breaking mine in now, manual states to vary RPMS no jack rabbit take offs or towing.
I'm on the highway and bring her up to 60-65 mph then take foot off gas peddle and let the RPM's go down so that my speed is 50-55. Dont let the car just sit at idle for too long.

The newer vehicles definitely don't have the same standard break in procedures that most of us have known about for years, but you still have to be easy on the engine and rest of the vehicle for the first 500-1000 miles or so. Try to avoid long drives at the same speed, rapid acceleration, or heavy braking. That will allow your engine, transmission, and brakes to gradually break in. An oil change around 2500-5000 miles and you're set. I have about 1800 miles on my 06 and I only recently started kicking it into passing gear with a lead foot.

To each their own, but I don't fully agree with taking it THAT easy on it for that long.

I like to start doing some good pulls after a couple hundred miles....my theory is that I don't want everything to break in too tight and rob power. Not scientificly tested, but it makes sense to me.

I agree to a point. I've read so many conflicting opinions on the matter that I think it's hard to nail down one method as the "right" method. I've read articles about motorcycle engines that say to romp on them as much and as quickly as possible, but that's because of the way they're designed and built. I would assume a truck with a V8 is designed and built differently, therefore the break in might need to be different. Who knows... it's a Toyota, so it'll probably run forever no matter what we do!

Break in procedure: Turn left out of dealer parking lot, smash the gas pedal and drive the tach to redline. Don't slam on the brakes until at least 200 miles, but after that you should be doing power slides with no problem.

Your V8 has a belt that requires changing at 90k miles.

I can't give you a good answer since I was off road at 85 mile's on the odo.

I've never been a beleiver in break in period's. I 've bought brand new vehicle's every 3 years since 85 and have alway's drove them like I alway's drive from the get go....just giver !!

I wouldn't care about break in periods either if I change my car every 3 years. The point of a good break in is to ensure the car will perform well in a long run.

If I change my cars every 3 years, I would be leasing them and redlining the car right out the dealership's lot.

I'm not talking about beating the crap out of it or redlining ( never said that). I take excellent care of my vehicles and would'nt hesitate to keep it longer at all.

By the way I do usually put on 80-100k in the 3 years of driving.

Granted today's engines are different than year's ago for break in period's. Even the mfg say's no oil change ness. until 5k miles,years ago you hass 3 under your belt by that time.

Vary your speed and no rocket start's or nose dive stop's right away,you'll be fine.

I drove it like I stole it from day one!!! But mine already had 250 or so miles since the dealer had to trade to get it for me. From my recent UOA it is doing just fine now at 50K miles. Link to it below.
