Breaking in my New TE

I bought my new Silver TE on Sept 7, 2010 and took it to Medano Pass in Colorado last weekend to break it in. Both sides now have many scratches that probably will not buff out but now I do not need to worry about dings anymore since it looks like I was keyed a dozen times.

Below are a few photos at Medano Pass. I only picked up new tires for this trip... BFG 275/70/17. After the trip I tinted the drivers and passenger windows, received in the mail WeatherTech DigiFit front and rear floor mats and waiting on the ShrockWorks sliders.

I did not extend the rear diff breather yet. :ybrick:

Thanks everyone for so many new ideas from reading this forum. I can't wait to do more mods.

As a precaution, you might want to check the rear diff fluid or change it since you hadn't performed the diff breather mod prior to the water crossing, but I'm sure you already know that since your :redbrick:

I took mine out to the desert Saturday and got it all scratched up as well, but that's the main reason I went with Silver, can't tell its scratched till you get up close and personal! :thumb3:

My kind of Trail owner. I got mine a month before you and broke it in on some nice trails by Central City a few weeks ago. I need to extend my diff breather as well, but it looks like yours did just fine wading through. Here is a pic with some Shrockworks to tide you over. Well worth the wait.

Ya, I definitely need to crack open the rear diff and check. Need to sit down and find the torque specs and buy some diff fluid just to replace it.

I hope those sliders arrive soon. Nice pic with those sliders. Need to start running more trails here in CO... so many awesome places to take advantage of.

I love the look of the duratracs on the stock rims. Are those AT or MT? Are those stock size (265/70)?

I did not extend the rear diff breather yet.

Does not it sound strange that Toyota did extend the tranny and front diff breathers, but "forgot" to do so for the rear diff breather? It is hard to believe that Toyota's' engineers overlooked this issue entirely. No logic.

Or may be you guys overreact on this, and there is another mechanism, which prevent water to come in rear diff?

I do not remember anywhere the manual saying "immediately change oil/ inspect/ etc. rear diff for water intrusion after water crossing. besides, we are all dryving flooded streets everyday, with splashes hitting the bottom of the car over and over again with no issue at all.

Water splashing and submerging your axle for a few minutes are two diffrent things and if you are in standing water that's above the center of the axles can lead to water intrusion. Most of the time it's not an issue but I preferred to be safe and extended my breather but it is odd Toyota doesn't do this on the 4Runners especially the TE model.

Even my old (2000) Ford Explorer has a factory installed rear diff breather extender. :wtf:
