breaking in period

Hi guys,

I just got my 2003 4 runner Limited few weeks ago. Its got 4.7 V8 engine and Im loving it so far. I got one question though. Some people told me that New 4runners have a built in chip that limits the power of the engine. Maybe Im too picky, but I think my ride isnt using its full potential.

Does 4runner really have break in chips or is it just a rumor?

thanks....

A break-in chip??? Never heard of that before! How is it supposed to work?? Does the dealer remove it after a period of time/miles and change it to a regular chip??

I doubt it. Just follow regular break-in procedure and you'll be fine.

In theory this chip disables itself after a cirtain mileage, thats what I was told, but I guess the guy that told me this misunderstood something.

I have never heard of such a thing on any car!

If that was the case, then there would be no need for proper break-in procedure, which is not the case.

I'm with Thai -- never heard of such a thing. If you think about it, engineering the chip into the engine would add cost -- who would pay extra for it?
