i saw a news on the Internet that Bridgestone may be running a up to $100 off (rebate?) promo for Dueler tires starting mid sept. seems like a good time to put a set of Revos on before winter is here. But i'd hate to put away the stock Bridgestone H/T (17") with < 10k miles. Storage is an issue if i am keeping the stock ones for next summer. Wife's gonna remind me of it unless i put it somewhere out of sight ;-)

I went for a set of 16" OEM steel wheels, and mounted 275/70s on them. The overall tire size is only slightly larger than the H/Ts so no clearance problems. Some tire retailers have a program to store your spare set for you. I have the room myself, but I believe the Firestone dealer I got my REVO's at offered to store my 2nd set for me.

I have been thinking about getting a second set of wheels to mount winter tires on. Were the 16" OEM steel wheels you got the wheels used on the Tundra? I don't rmember seeing a 16" Steel wheel for the 4Runner.

NEW YORK -- Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire will run a month-long promotional blitz starting mid-September to promote its Dueler tires.
The effort, via Grey Worldwide, New York, features an offer of up to a $100 mail-in rebate with the purchase of up to four Dueler tires or certain comparable Firestones. The Nashville-based company will promote with full page, full color ads in USA Today on Sept. 16, plus radio and three new retail TV spots.
The humorous TV ads show people who desperately need new tires. One woman parks her SUV on a steep hill, engages the emergency brake, and walks away in time to see the vehicle slide down the hill and crash into another parked vehicle, presumably because the tires are too slick to grip.

Acutally, the 4Runner listed the 16" steel wheels as standard equipment on the SR5. But almost all were ordered with the alloys or had them installed as a port option. The wheels I got were 'port take-offs'. I got them from a place in Ohio that was selling the 'used' take-offs. I paid $60. a piece and $60. for a set of center caps, $300. total with shipping. They are silver, so they went well with my Titanium, and they are not a bad looking wheel.

PS: I just checked the site, and the wheels are now $65. each and the center cap set is $70. They are still way cheaper than from the dealer, about $140. last time I checked. They also carry the Taco, Tundra, and Sequoia wheels if you want something different.

Now I just have to figure out what tire is best for me here in Eastern Pennsylvania for winter driving (ie traction vs tire life vs cost).

So do you run 5 - 16" wheels in the winter and 5 - 17" wheels in the summer/spring/fall? What about the speedometer/odometer change?

Nah, I only went with 4 REVOs. I figure the chances of a tire failure are pretty slim, so I leave the H/T spare in place during the winter. As I said, the difference in overall size between the REVOs and the H/Ts is pretty small, so I am not worried about the slight effect on the speedometer/odometer.
