Bridgestone Revo E - Ongoing Review

I bought 265/70-17 LT (E rated) Bridgestone Dueler Revo tires from Sam's Club. We added ceramic beads to balance the tires (http://www.innovativebalancing.com/). I left Sam's with 40 PSI in the tires.

These tires replaced the same sized BFG AT KO, which are a C rated tire. I had about 50K+ miles on these tires, and was noticing some cracks between the tread. Tread separation? Frankly, there was quite a bit of tread left on the tires. Uneven wear and the cracking caused me to make the change early. While an outstanding tire off-road. I remain unimpressed with the tires wet road performance. Lots of ABS use when trying to stop on wet roads.

My day 1 impressions are that the tire is much quieter over the road buttons we have here in Dallas. Quieter also over the various road joints and imperfections. The tires seem quicker to turn than the BFGs.

I will add to this post as I develop more of an opinion on these tires.

BTW: I have 82K+ miles on the 2004 V8 SE. Looking at the original brake pads, I found about 1/8" remaining pad on the rear and more than that on the front pads. I have new ceramic front pads and cryogenic rotors coming for the front, and some other Hawk pads coming for the rear. Now it is time to get an alignment and do the brakes.

Good to know. I wish I could see a set of "E"s "P"s and the BFG AT all side by side. Koz said the "E"s are a deeper and wider tread, more aggressive than "P" rated.

Cant wait to hear the reviews/thought's. I love BFGs but the Revos handle so much better in wet weather. My P's ride real nice too. I would be interested in your off road thoughts on these.

Any close up pics of the tread ? or just on the trucjk in general?

Tread: A little deeper, and a lot wider gap in the center section. Probably another 3/32" more tread depth. Tire Rack has the details in their E specifications.

I went with the white letters inside. I had the BFGs with the letters on the outside, but with all the curbs I climb the letters wore poorly. With my lift the letters will be easy to see though.

Can you continously run them at 40psi without a problem ? The ride is better or worse than a new set BFGs ?

I must admit my "P"s have taken a pretty good beating,but I might switch the white letters in since they are not holding up to well with some of the abuse....lol

Im really interested in your thought off road . dirt, mud , rocks ect... No go get it dirty

The ceramic beads seem to work fine. At 80+ there is no vibration. Time will tell though.

When the BFGs were new, the tall tread blocks made turning action a bit vague. The tall blocks on the Revo are about half as vague. This goes away as the heat cycle of the tire hardens the blocks.

Since you had the KOs on last, you can give a good comparison. Many will be looking forward to your opinion. My experience has been with the 15" REVO LTs, on a Taco. All I can say is they are the best A/T tire I've abused so far!

I bought the six-pack of 5oz. bead bags. I'm keeping an extra bag in the 4Runner in case I have to have a flat repaired.

I cut off the top of each bag and set it in the tire before closing the top bead. The Sam's guys were helpful with this process.

The job site off-roading so far show the tires to function the same. But then, the four wheel drive makes the most difference. As far as flat protection, time will tell.

The Revos want to wander more than the KOs on grooved streets. Probably a function of their quicker steering. The switch from the KO to the Revo may make some to feel that the Revo is twitchy. I find the added responsiveness refreshing.

These tires are stiff, so don't expect a sudden transformation to a car-like ride. That being said, these E rated Revos are quieter than the KOs by a very noticable margin. I'm not discussing tread noise here, instead the sound transmitted to the cabin from joints and cracks the tires cross.

I would say that the ride quality of the Revo is better than the KO. Still a truck ride, but much improved over the KO.

I've discussed the "twitchy" nature of the steering. If you drive limp-wristed fashion, with your wrist draped over the top of the steering wheel, like many pick-up drivers, then you will be bothered by how quick the steering is with the Revos. If you drive with both hands on the wheel, like I do, then you will find the responsive steering to be fun.

I thought the E's were more agressive than the P's hard to tell from the pic but they dont look any more aggressive then my P's do , just a hella lot stronger I'm sure. They still dont look aggressive to me for an all terrain. Guess I'm used to the BFG look which have bigger lugs , deeper tread.

I've found Revos to be a great riding tire , excellent in wet/rain , decent in snow & off road.

I wish they made them in a "C" rated. I see alot of Revos around on trucks. Also these tires have new , good technology in them. Wish the tread depth was deeper too.

Although I long time BFG fan and they are the best looking and have the best white letters IMO, they have not changed or updated them in years. Granted the KO version came in a while back but really don't know what ever changed if anything.

Must be the tread design / maybe bigger lugs or something that makes them look more aggressive.

I'm sure the Revos will do great.

A few weeks ago I biffed a curb up and over it with all 4 tires at about 5 mph with my "P" rated Revos and they handled it fine. I was worried about the tires but have had no problems with them or alignment. I run mine at 40 psi.

Thanks.......I've never been one for the white letters on the outside but that doesn't look to bad, maybe because your truck is silver. I think it might stand out more on a dark color.

I am getting an unusual chunking pattern around the outside tread edge of one front tire. I had the 4Runner aligned and the amount the toe was off on that tire was minimal, so that wasn't it. It is as if someone took a rasp to the very edge of the tread. I may want this tire replaced under warranty.
