I traded in a 2013 for my 4Runner because of all the issues it had. But damn the newer ones got me thinking of trading back eventually.

Looks like chump change for that neighborhood.

Yeah, you’re correct...very nice neighborhood. At least, he does go hunting and will put the Raptor to good use.

Crawling around underneath while i was there on vacation, the Raptor is an impressively built machine. Look at the huge IFS cast alum control arms! The shocks are huge. Frame is thick and with welded thru both sides crossmembers...and is a stronger frame than the regular F150. Those tires and then add in FORGED beadlock rims. Rear locker + front limited slip.

Yet, when driving it on the streets, it is perfectly quiet and comfy on the inside. It is almost impossible to have such a good ride relatively to what you see outside and underneath!

Oh, and the rear axle already have breather tube!

After spending a few hours with it, i am extremely impress with how the Raptor is built and the components used.

I've never been a Ford guy, but I must admit that its a great offering. Nice to get that kind of capability with OEM parts.

Need to be sure to record it though!

The Raptors are nice, really nice. I just couldn’t get over how bad my last ford was though.

I'm waiting for the V8.

Well, the “modified” engine in the Raptor makes 450 HP and 510 torque at 3500 RPM and is good for 0-60 under 5.5 seconds...all the while getting 15 mpg city and 18 mpg highway, which is surprisingly good for a 5800+ lbs vehicle rolling on huge off-road tires. (By comparison, 2018 Toyo Land Cruiser weighing about the same with the 5.7L V8 gets 13mpg city / 18 mpg highway on street tires...0-60 in 6.7 seconds. Torque of the V8 is 401 at 3500 rpm.)

Previous gen Raptor with 6.2 V8 made 411 HP and 434 torque at 4500 RPM with 0-60 in 6.7 sec. Fuel economy was 11/16.

Need to be sure to record it though!

That’s the BIG question. On paper, the Raptor is a sure winner...sales AND resale value prove that. The question is how well it ages...i will keep you guys updated in this thread of any issues my brother gets.

Your brother made a great choice! As long as he can hold off on tuning it, I would ride out the factory warranty, see what his individual experience with reliability is like as well and then check in on the collective feedback of the crew of FRF after three years. If there are no major issues I would keep enjoying that amazing suspension. If bits and pieces are dropping off, and nothing else comes out to compete with the Raptor over the next three years, I would be tempted to trade in and pick up another new Raptor.

I really thought the suspension and the 2017 Raptors, as a package, are that good. I was willing to give Ford the benefit of the doubt on long term reliability but I was not willing to knock down a wall in my garage to make enough room for the SuperCrew.

My brother is not a car guy that much...and certainly not into modding. So, we should be able to see Ford’s reliability with a stock car.

It is a WIDE vehicle! It is even wider than the F250 Super Duty...but fortunately for his garage, Raptor is shorter than F250 and thus barely fit in his garage.

7.0 L V8 should be an option this fall or early next year.

I'll take that over turbos.

Solid choice... That's pretty much the only truck that interests me right now.

I got to check one out at the dealer and it's really a massive truck but very agile. I don't think I would have any problems with the turbo 6. It drives nice.

The increased agility over the older V8 was welcome... agility is one of the main reasons I like my 4th Gen 4 runner.... it's very "light on its feet" when compared to other offerings.

Raptor Ranger and the Chevy Colorado ZR2 both exceed the Tacoma in pretty much every possible way...

In the compact truck segment, the only reason to buy a Tacoma is if you are brand loyal to Toyota. In other words, a fanboy that can't see past the brand or keep an open mind about what the competition is doing right, and what Toyota is doing wrong.

That said, neither company currently makes an SUV that I like more than the 4Runner or LC.

I distinctly heard the driver say, "Hold my beer" as he crested the dirt pile...
