Broke sway bar end link for the 3rd time

I have an 08 sr5 with a toytec leveling kit. The right sway bar end link keeps going bad and breaking on me. I have replaced it 3 times now under the parts warranty. The last one I put on was a Moog brand replacement.

Does anyone have any advice on why one side keeps going bad? ..I have already changed the sway bar bushings. Thanks

My guess is that your suspension is too tight somewhere causing the sway bar to bind and snap the link. Though you only have a leveling kit so that seems weird to me.

Where is it breaking?

It is not physically breaking in half. I am guessing the joints are going bad inside the rubber bushings causing banging and a sloppy suspension.

You're sure it's the sway bar link failing and not the sway bar having slid to the side and contacting the coilovers?

It's something you see more on lifted 4Runners because the sway bars tend to get relocated and the aluminum collars that "locate" the sway bar in the middle of the vehicle get loose and the bar can get pushed by bigger tires to the left and right on tight turns. Then when the suspension articulates it catches the bar and can "bang", "pop", and/or "clunk".

This was happening to me on my 4th gen, but my coilovers are a bit wider than the factory set-up if I recall:

I forget where I posted the "fix" but I ended up buying aftermarket sway bar collars (they were for a Jeep if I remember right? I forget the size) and just centering the bar and then cranking the collars down. Haven't had issues with rubbing/squeaking for a while.

How necessary is the front sway bar for daily driving use? I know people remove them all the time but I assumed it was more for off-road usage.

Hmmm. Sort of necessary, I'd say. Yank it off and go for a ride. Do you like the new handling? Would you consider it safe in the event of you having to yank the wheel at highway speeds? Only you can answer that.

My rear sway bar has been gone for years. I can't really tell a difference in handling. The damn screws snapped in the frame and I said EFF it, off she comes.

Can anyone link me the DIY sway bar end link thread? I thought I saw it on here one time on how to make your own for the front.
