I put like 2-3tons of landscaping block in the back of my runner today, drove it to the site... about 25miles away under very slow and safe driving conditions.
Get to the site to unload, unload the block(this was about 8am), work all day and leave at 4pm from the job site.
As soon as I hop back on the 2 lane highway to head home I hear this (clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk), and it intensifier with the revs.
Sounded like a loose drive shaft or a U-joint was loss.
Got under the car and the drive shaft are sturdy, so is the U-joint.
WFT???
So I jacked the rear axle up enough to get the rear tires off the ground and on some jack stands. Put it into (D) and to my surprise it sounds like the axle bearing may have been crushed under that load. I also put on my parking break and noticed that my passenger tire could still spin, reaffirming to me that I crushed my bearings, and now I have a rear axle leak.
