broken shock?

Hey guys. I could use a little help, being a Toyota salesperson and not a tech, I dont usually work on my own truck, and I noticed I have a issue that has popped up. I was getting a noise from the drivers side rear, so I stopped on the trail and flexed out the truck to look, sure enough it looked/felt like the shock bolt had come loose... well that was a few days ago. today I clean everything off and take a look and it looks like the whole shock is busted, its just flopping around in the shock mount hole. So I guess the shock is broken???

I'm running longer factory FJ shocks to get more flex, I guess the longer shock and a big bump could have broke something? What do you guys think?

this is the "normal" not broken side. The bushing is nice and tight.

This why I put FJ shocks on it in the first place.. FLEX But now its getting a SS 1.2 lift on it this week.

What coils are you running in the back? Are the shocks from a FJZ (Land Cruiser) or a FJ Cruiser? If your coils are still stock, the FJZ shock will be too long, and the FJ Cruiser shocks have a compressed length of 15.5", which will over compress with most coils, lift or not. Unless maybe you're running extended bump stops.

Sorry to have to put it this way but that is 4Runner abuse. Beautiful truck at one time I bet. And yes I would think its busted.

Yes that is the problem. I just had some extra FJ parts laying around work and thru them on there. So they were the factory FJ shocks and springs and the shocks were too long for the truck. I have ordered the Senoran steel 1.2 lift which will go on this week I hope. Thx for the info!

Which part was the abuse (the way it looks? I bought it this way, a old lady had hit 2 elk and a deer with it) LOL or the fact I put a ghetto "lift" on it? Yeah, that turned out not to be the smartest thing to do.

2 elk and a deer?! Holy crap. That is why old people need to go through driving school once they reach a certain age. I know accidents happen but when your mounting more deer in your 4Runner than with your Remington, then your doing it wrong.

The Sonoran Steel lift will treat you good. I might suggest changing out your front and rear bumpers to steel?

Looks like it might be busted.. not holding it's compression. Also, it looks upside down. I would have though the shaft goes towards the lower mount, not the upper mount. Maybe they're not the right shocks to begin with. I dunno, can't really tell from the pics.

Hmm, Im sorry but I'm gonna have to call bs nobody downgrades from a 2008 taco to a 01 4runner. More pics of the Taco or it didnt happen

your right sort of .. I went from a 2007 taco to 2000 4runner instead. LOL

In the works as we speak! Yeah that Taco was bad ass.. had a doubler T-case too! and ton of more stuff!

Yes, a older chain smoking (inside the damn truck, it was NASTY) lady owned it, and she wasn't afraid of any damn elk or deer, and she couldn't afford a hunting license, so this is how she fed her family on the way home from work. LOL Yeah, I origionally just bought it to scout new trails with when I owned the blue truck, so I wouldn't scratch up its pretty paint so much, then some stuff changed and I could no longer keep the taco. So this moved up to main wheeler, (which I wheel on a weekly base) It has wheeled great so far with 235k on the clock and mostly stock, but now I decided to finally mod it.

It may not be broken. I put some FJ shocks on my 06 4runner when I had it...and for some reason when i installed them, the little snap ring that holds that bottom bushing tight popped loose on each side 1 time.

Had to clean up the groove that the ring sat it, and then it was fine, drove it for another 10,000 miles without any issues before i sold it.
