Broken sunroof

Sunroof is broken and I want it fixed, but don't want to pay the stealership a lot of money to get it fixed.

if I took the sunroof and sunroof motor out of a 95, would it work for my 96?

I'd take the sunroof motor out and see if it still works. I had the same issue with my '99. I found out that the motor still worked, but the chain that drove the sunroof was all gunked up with solid grease. The previous owner must not have used it much, gausing the grease to harden up, not allowing anything to move. I haven't fixed it, and am not sure how much it would cost either; its a task that I do not feel like messing with.

I think the motor is dead, because it got stuck open and will not close, so we've sealed it off.

The sunroof motor is easy to swap and does not involve removing the whole "sunroof assembly" since the motor is located in a different spot, near the front map lights area.

No the motor from a 95 will not work in a 96+. I don't 100% know this but I'm 99% sure since I've (personally) never heard of 95 parts working in a 3rd gen before - in any instance.

I just finish swapping out my complete sunroof assemble due to the cable being worn out and not opening. It not a bad project to tackle only 2-3 hrs or less.

I have a good motor from a 98 if u need, generally it's plastic warm cables not motor I have repaired a few not bad about two hundreds for both cables 3/4 hr job plus beer
