Browsing Auto Trader

So I made the mistake of browsing 4Runners on Auto Trader today and found an 2007 Limited 4th Gen the same as mine except white in color with less than half of the kms on it that I have on mine for the same price as what I paid for mine a year and a half ago. Mine has 130,000 kms, this one has like 65,000 kms

Then I made the mistake of talking to the dealership about trading up and of course they were all over it.

Have any of you guys done this? essentially starting your car loan over again just to upgrade something like half as many kms?

One part of my brain is telling me to forget about it and just keep paying down the loan the other is telling me to go for it for the significantly less kms because it will potentially last longer.

The salesman said they may be able to give me what I owe on my current 4Runner and then my new loan would only be $50/month more than what I pay now on the new one.

just wanted to put this out there. who knows, the girlfriend might shut this down real quick anyways...

You mentioned you bought yours a year and a half ago? By now you know how healthy the truck is and how you've been keeping up with it. Miles aren't nearly as significant as maintenance history. I would rather have a Toyota with 100,000 miles that was religiously maintained over the same one that was poorly maintained with 50,000 miles. In my opinion, it is definitely not worth it. I would keep what you have and enjoy it. Let us know what you decide.

Yeah, that's true. Mine runs like a top right now and I have a significant amount paid off. I also don't plan on selling or changing vehicles any time soon so I might as well just hang onto what I've got.

I'm always looking to upgrade, especially when it's slow at work. I was actually curious to see if there were any 2009 Trail Editions kicking around.

I'll distract myself with mods instead of the auto trader from now on.

Good plan! I used to have an '03 that I bought with 77,800 miles and was totaled with just over 93,000 miles. I bought my '06 with 109,500 and now has over 115,800. I can honestly say that the '03 with less miles NEVER ran as smoothly as my current '06 does.

Was your 03 a V8?

I'd keep the $50 bucks a month if all you're getting is less miles.

If it were a few years newer or something, maybe, but not just for miles. Not now.

Rule of thumb: every 10k you borrow = approx. $200 month in payments. So you'd be borrowing about $2500.

Doesn't seem worth it. Borrow $2500 and put it into sweet mods. :)
