Brush Guard Opinion.

I've been researching for a couple months on all the available brush guards and have narrowed it down to two, Jaos and Onki. The Jaos seems to be too pricy ($1200). I really like the Onki but I've never heard of them and never seen one in person. Does anyone know of this company/grill guard and if so; what do you think of it. The guard looks really nice (see link) and it seems to have a locking pin that would allow you to tilt the whole guard forward to wash the front end. Any feedback would be appreciated.

i like the JAOS myself. i was thinking of getting the
JAOS center proector R from burtman's but im still looking for the best price on it.

I'd want to see that on someone else's 4Runner first. It looks HUGE! The Jaos looks nice. Heck, it is only another 400 or so more;) Don't you love your truck enough to spend the money on her? What IS wrong with you, lol.

If you get it, you'll like it. The price is hard to swallow, but you'll forget about it after you get it installed. My only complaint about the Jaos is that it doesn't blend well with the truck from the side. This is because the hood needs quite a bit of clearance to open, and they weren't able to tuck the protector around the top of the bumper like previous versions. I also wish they did a better job hiding the bolts that attach it to the truck. All in all though, I'm happy with.

I too researched the full protector units, but I just think they are overkill. I bought the Jaos because someone backed into the front of my truck in a parking lot. It only scratched the paint a little, but I didn't want it to happen again. All I really wanted to protect was the front part. The sides weren't as big of a concern. I really didn't want to cover up the styling of the 4 runner.

The reason for the clearance is the grill is attached to the hood. The Onki mounts differently; the whole guard pivots forward (see attached) so the hood will clear the guard and it makes it easier to clean behind it. The problem I have is that the Onki is more cosmetic then functional. The guard only mounts at the base (at two points). It really will not take any kind of bump. So, I'm pretty much back to where I started. I will not pay $1200 for one guard and I want something that will provide protection. Everything keeps going back to the T&H. I like the T&H high bull bar, so I could put some good sized lights.

Get the low bar and weld tabs for lights on top. I've been thinking of doing that myself. the high bar looks goofy and will probably get in the way when you work on your car... er... wash the front end :p.
 
bull bar choice

I just installed a SS T&H low bull bar on 05. Frankly I thought they could have done a better job cleaning up the welds. There was a fair amount of weld splatter that hadn't been cleaned. Yea it's not where you can easy see it, but for the money it should have been clean. I suppose I could have sent it back but the way the thing was packaged it would have been difficult. Another problem was the passenger side top bracket hit part of the plastic grill. I was able to make a very small cut in the grill (you can't see it) but again for the money I didn't think it should have been necessary. Maybe mine was produced on Monday and folks weren't feeling great... Over all was a little disappointed in the over all quality of the bar costing almost 400 bucks......

Anyway it's something to consider when making your selection. It does however look good IMHO and I guess that's the bottom line.
 
Can someone post a pic of a side view of the Jaos center protector on their runner? I am looking for something for the front also, but don't want a full cage.

well my decision is made up now. i'm going with the Jaos Center Protector. Afeter serching the forums and seeing it on a galactic grey 4R im ready to order it.

I like the look of the Jaos but I already installed a Westin bar on my truck. Now for the lights. I'm considering going with a remote receiver programmed into the homelink but would like some feedback on the reliability. I don't want some stray signal to turn on my lights at night and drain the battery. Have you are anyone else had this problem. Would a panel switch be better even though it adds the need for more wiring (more potential problems?).
 
YES, but $1200! I may go for the center protector $600.

That was my reasoning too Koz. plus it really like how the Center protector looked.


Just to give ya the heads up. I just purchased the JAOS Center Protector R from Burtman Industries.
Jason wanted me to inform you all that they are instock.

I just talked to him today and placed my order and he is having it shipped today. :)

Thanks Bobby! Looks great on your '04. Just making sure, but is that the low bar? In Hawaii we are required to have front plates so I was wondering if the bar obstructs the stock license plate mount?.

Yep, it's the low bull bar. It does block the plate from view a little but I haven't had any problems with the law yet. It doesn't obstruct the plate mounting though.
 
Cool! I want to get one, but wasn't sure on how it would block the plate. So may I ask where you bought it from and was it easy to mount?
