Brushguard or Bull Bar?

I am looking at the hunter safari bull bar or brushguard. I can't decide which one I want. Not getting for the protection. Mainly to mount my lights because I don't really like where they are now. And the regular bull bar says it will only fit 4 1/2" lights. Not sure if that is right, but mine are 6". The brushguard does not seem to form to the body very well?? What is your opinion?

:iagree:

I like the Defiant bar. I think the bullbars and brush guards stick out too far with the stock bumper and make the front end look too heavy. Just my 2 cents...

Defiant Light Bar might be a good option since you only wanna hook up lights.

Defiant Truck Products -

I have considered this as well. Except it is more $$$$ than the brush guard. (on a budget since most of my $$$ goes to Mississippi State University )

I agree about the bull bar sticking out with the fat lip bumper. I have not seen any t4r in person with a brushguard though.

I think the lights on the bumper look good how you have 'em. How do you have those mounted? Straight to the bumper or brackets?

sorry, don't really have anything constructive to contribute...

The only brush guard that I like is the Manik, but they went out of business and they're hard to find. Don't like bull bars... never been a fan. Get a steel bumper, like the Shrockworks without hoops if you can afford it. Here's the Manik

They are mounted on brackets. Check out my build thread. There is a photo. I have considered mounting two more with brackets but I am still not sure I like them mounted on brackets. Too many options...

I have no need for a shrockworks. Love the way they look but definitely pointless to buy one for looks. Those guys need to be put to work!

What kind of bull bar is that JAC? And do you have a profile shot so I can see how much it sticks out?

Have you seen this on the T4R? Post a pic when you get it on.

I have not seen this on a 4Runner yet but the guard is custom contoured to the shape of the front end and 2 1/2" is used, so it doesn't stick out to far. Also it is sorta a bull/brush bar combination. I have read some reviews and it seems to be very high quality. It is a little pricy; I got it for $635 delivered (10% off). Powder coated has a 10 year warranty. I've found that SS is the only way to go! I even replace the hardware with SS. I'll post as soon as I get it on.

I think I have decided. I am going to go with a light bar and two more lights since I don't need the so called "protection" from a brush or bull bar. I am designed and am going to build my own though. The reason for this is I have not seen one that mounts where I want it to and I can build it for less than $20 as opposed to buying one for minimum $150. Anyways I threw together some quick 3D models. Let me know what you think. I have never seen one square but I think I like better than tubular. Also it is not black in the pictures so you can see it better. (will match truck)

I love the way your bull bar looks!!

I see you have a Panama flag.. Are you from Panama? I used to lived there and I simply love it!! Such a great country.

Thanks for the compliments on the bull bar my friend.

Yes I am from Panama I was born and I grew up over there. My Dad was In the Army and stationed when he met my mom and blah blah blah . She lived over here for a while but then got separated and took me and my brothers back to Panama. I simply Love Panama and try to go every year if I can ......... Are you mexican?....Btw...welcome to the forum.:bluejump:

You could always put bigger lights on the outside and smaller in the center or something and mix it up a little too... may add a little dynamic to the truck.

JAC - Does that Steelcraft bar only mount at the bottom or does it also have mounting points through the bottom grill?

Koz - Have you mounted that bar yet? Need to see some pics.

I have the same bullbar with round lights mounted on it. I don't have any pics from the side, but I can tell you I love the way it looks from the front, but from the side I do find it sticks out a bit much. I'm still glad I got it, but I just don't love how it looks from the side. It is EXTREMELY solid, however, as its the only bullbar I know that attaches at 4 points. If you get it, search for user jediwebdude's instructions on how to install. Made it MUCH easier.

Here's a pic
