Bug Out Bag?

I'm thinking making a "bug out bag" for my 4Runner Trail in case the zombies come.

I noticed Toyota had an "emergency assistance kit" and a "first aid kit" but I feel like I can build a better one.

I carried a "BOB" extensively in Iraq...They are invaluable.

Food
Water
First aid/tourniquets
Some emergency cash
Spare GPS/maps
Knife
A few spare parts for Glock and M4/cleaning
Etc..

And of course

Ammo, lots of extra ammo...

I carry one in my 4Runner, minus the gun stuff for now.

Kinda my specialty. I really like this one by first spear.

Lays flat so I can get to all my gear. If you want a smaller bag they make a discreet one called them comm pack and a couple others. Hawke packs is another good company.

Peoples' definitions of bug-out bag vary. Usually means anywhere from 2 - 5 days worth of items/supplies that you could live off. I can fit everything I need for 3 days in any weather condition into a 30 liter pack. I throw it in the back of my 4r every morning. Optimally, I would like 30 minutes to get home from work, throw extra supplies in the back, grab my jerrys, tent, protection, and loved ones, and gtfo, but as a wise man once said, the best-laid schemes 'o mice an men gang aft agley. I've got my boots on my feet, a pack on my back, and the forest not too far away.

I would recomment taking the time to read through a multitude of "prepper plans" and figure out what best fits you and your scenario. Shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions.

Hey guys what's up!!? I've been looking for a bug out bag too ever since my friends have started planning a camping trip to the Acadia national park in Maine and we're pretty much excited about it :cowboy:. I don't know this is my first ever experience and my mom said that it's better if I take a safety kit or something of that sort with me. I just jumped across your discussion while I was browsing this website http://EmergencyBugOutBags.com ? Emergency Bug Out Bags that my mom has found last night for me. I'm not sure If I should go for a ready-made bag or ,make one myself because my friends say I know my personal needs better so no one can make a survival kit for me better than I can. But you know how moms are and she's been forcing me to buy one because she thinks it's more reliable and yeah then there is effective space utilization that's pretty much important when you're going out for camping. Help me out guys!!

Water

Drinking water should be your first concern. I always pack a cooler and basic tools, etc.

The list above are good. And the list could be endless.

Everything else is a luxury item.

First thing in my list is drinking water...almost everything else can be had.

I carry a water filtration sysystem with a couple of nalgene bottles that fit the pump. Also on the top of the list is a couple hundred feet of pars cord.

I can go months without food..but only days without water.

If shit really hits the fan protecting yourself, and family would be priority number one at least for me. All the people who didn't prepare will come after you for your supplies. You must defend family and supplies at all costs. I always have water, food, ammo, and most importantly a Colt 6920.

"bug out box!" This is what I use to carry recovery gear for the runner. Army issue & water proof & the perfect low profile roof top box & aluminum to boot! Not a pack but these are awesome boxes none the less you can use them for anything.
The new plastic ones such as the Pelican cases weigh more and hold less and the fiberglass ones just plain suck hence their short issue time. The Ugly camo job is my own creation!

If you have waited around long enough to even consider needing a firearm, you have waited around too long. It is only number one if the area you will be leaving has such a high population density that you won't have high enough odds to leave without one. Chances are in that situation, even if you have a firearm, you are going to run into many others that have more and much less to lose than yourself/family. Just say'n.

A way to produce safe drinking water should be #1. A reliable means to start a fire should be a very close second. Then a solid knife and some means of staying warm (wool hat, termal blanket, wool socks). Next, I'd say a means of singalling and then some paracord. A basic first aid kit and a tournequet is a good idea as well. I think a firearm is pretty low on the list, depending on what you are carrying and where you are at. If you do decide to get a firearm, get a reliable .40cal pistol like a Glock 22 or something.

With that being said, my work "go-bag" consists of 7x30 round magazines of 5.56 for my M4, 4x15 round mags for my 9mm pistol, 2 frag grenades, 1 smoke grenade, small handheld GPS, evasion map with lensatic compass, IR strobe, IR chemlights, a wool hat, jacket, socks and a 2 MREs.

My survival vest already has my radio, some water, first aid, fire starter, more ammo and my pistol.

Your "BOB" needs to be tailored to the environment you'll be in, IMHO.

Being one of the guys that insures the Town stays safe.

Own a second home in a very remote location on a large lake.

Own a trailer for casually moving between locations.

You probably need to reevaluate your list lol.
A firearm would not be needed for several days or weeks. Water will be needed within hours and be a constant need forever. Let me know how you are going to provide clean drinking water with that little gun.

Exactly.
You run from, not to, cities. My statement in an earlier post remains true. Most of the city guys who managed to get away would eventually end up in a place like where I live. A pistol won't get you here.
