Bug shield or NO Bug shield??

I just got the AVS = Auto Vent Shade (AVS Bug Deflector original) it is shorter accross the hood than the AVS Bug Deflector II. It just covers the hood portion and not the fenders. I like the smaller look. I'll have to take a pic and post it.

My is very dark so no you cannot see through it. I like it that way. It is sturdy and looks good with the tinted windows. I use it to tell me where the hood ends and estimate the bumber. Works great in my opinion.

I've got a Lund, its smoke color.... wait i think its solid black... gosh i duno I like mine though it seems to flow nice with the hood

Bug shield, called a "Toyot" minus the A, came with my "every option on it" used 01. And it's great, very well worth it. Probably get 90 percent less bugs on the windshield with it. Even blasted a couple of errant birds overhead as well.

For whatever reason, most 3rd gens look better with them. I tried mine without for a while but put it back on. It's the stock Toyota one, and it's held up great considering the truck is 12 years old.

I want one for the sole purpose of preventing rock chips, seems Elton's Lund Avenger would be good. Did they discontinue them?

I dont know how long my bug guard has been on my truck but it looks great and I highly reccomend one as they are fairly cheap and add alot for the money.

I have the AVS bugshield and I really like it. It looks good and serves its purpose well. In my experiences it actually has kept a considerable amount of bug guts off my windshield.

I like the OEM as well, I plan in getting one soon. I'm looking for any protection I could get only if it is minimal - the second day I owned my Runner I got a star on my windshield and they want $80 to fix it, I can prob get a new windshield for $120 so I'm trying to avoid anymore dings and chips on my hood/windshield. I guess the bug deflector can't hurt...

When I bought my truck back in 98 from the dealer it had the sunroof deflector on top. I added the Bugsheild it was my first addition to the truck...made me nervous drilling holes in a brand new vehicle. I went with the Bugdeflector II from AVS. It has clear rubber push off button things that mount to the back of the sheild which I like and it sits off of the hood so it won't scratch the paint or the quarter panels.

It has lived up to the claim and I don't seem to have that many bugs on the windshield from the road trips. I also bought some ventshades for the side windows about 3 years ago and I have been happy with them as well. Go for it mine was mostly to protect the front hood from rocks etc...but it has held up well for the past 12 years going on 13 and I would do it all over again. Go with the one that covers the quarter panels as well it makes a more finished look in my opinion.

Had OEM, but it shattered. I replaced it with AVS II. While the AVS is fine, I feel like the OEM was more rigid and provided slightly better bug/rock protection. The AVS does tend to flex a little when going freeway speeds. The OEM didn't budge.

i ordered a Lund Interceptor Bug Shield 1996-2002 last night. Hope i like it.
Elton H had mentioned the Lund Interceptor, i really hope it looks like the pic of his. $54 and 18 shipping from underbid.com
i don't want a tall one, although i do expect a tall one like most i've seen.
it was tough to chose online because most images were of some other truck than a 4runner.

i could use a new windshield too, in the right light the whole thing looks like it was hit by very tiny shotgun pellets.
must have been bugs tho', not many shotguns around here. :gun5:
