Bug shield recommendation

I like my OEM bug shield. It seems like a majority of people here go with the AVS. I think the major complaint with the OEM is how the retaining metal tabs touch the hood. The OEM shield comes with clear pieces of tape to be positioned on the hood where the tabs go to prevent paint damage. The biggest complaint about the AVS appears to be noise at high speeds.

I'm sure you know this, while the bug shield might make your 4Runner look super cool, it won't stop bugs or rocks from hitting your windshield.

I think the earlier OEM's had some issues...clips on paint issue.
My OEM one has Mylar shields to protect the paint as well...

Look at my build it has pictures.

Mine doesn't make noise or vibrate at high speeds either, its definitely been tested! :behindsofa:

Just curious here.
In the 4Runner application, does one have to apply bumps onto the surface of hood with the WeatherTech?

Nope. It comes with them but with the way the deflector wraps around the hood it adds rigidity so there's no way that it would ever flex enough to touch the hood.
 
for what it's worth I've ran the weather tech on my 4th gen for 5 years now with no negative effects on the paint or mounting holes etc. all good, less bugs on the windshield and good looks.

By lower profile do you mean it doesn't stick out much? By the way nice looking rig. Are you thinking of adding the TRD Pro grille?
