Build and materials cost?

Anyone have any idea what the true cost of a 4runner is? For example, how much does it cost Toyota in parts and labor to build a base model SR5?

This is a good thought, but, if we all knew this cost then how would the dealerships make any money? Toyota and the like keep this info on lockdown for sure.

oh, and obviously, never pay MSRP.

Check out True Car. This is who owns zag.com.

2011 Toyota 4Runner 4WD 4dr V6 SR5 - New Car Price Report

This will show you retail, invoice, actual dealer cost and average of what people are paying. Don't forget to plug in your options and packages.

Dealer cost takes into account factory to dealer incentives and holdback. Holdback is a dealer cash flow supplement from the manufacturer that is usually a percentage of the MSRP. This usually helps covers financing, marketing, upkeep until the car is sold. There is often a further incentive to move the cars quickly (like within 60 days). If you order your truck to be built, the dealer will actually make more money on it, as it doesn't have to sit in inventory.

Probably a few thousand less than what it sells for.

If we were to buy parts even at dealer cost to built it ourselves, it'll probably cost much more than buying it already assembled.
