Building a 5L-T

Hi all,
I am currently looking at installing a 5L engine into my 4runner to replace the terribly underpowered 2L-TE that it was endowed with from factory.
But instead of using the N/A route I have decided to use the turbo exhaust manifold and turbo (stock for now) and retro fit a manual injector pump for ease of tune-ability and throwing all the EFI stuff to the dump.

Has anyone else gone down this path? I have a friend of a friend who has done this and he swears he has more power than his on road truck which has the common rail 1kz engine.. if this is so the id be a very happy man!

Most of the members here are from North America and we did not get offered any of the fine deisel engines you guys have in Europe, Australia, NZ, Asia etc...

I have seen some interesting things done with 22R engines, GM throttle bodies and turbos without any EFI CPU/sensors. I don't see why you couldn't make it work based off of what I have seen.

I just hope i can get around blowing head gaskets and cracking heads!!
Im still toying with the idea of using a 5 liter ford V8 with LPG..
