Building a 5th gen for SEMA and tech articles

Even though I always like seeing Toyota vehicles at SEMA (because jeeps and dodge get old) it's getting less and less common to see real custom builds....everything is just bolt on glamor shots for vehicles (I'm perhaps being too harsh, I still see some very awesome builds there). I some how end up at SEMA every year (even though we have not had a booth in 2 years) and every year I see more and more "bro-trucks". The south hall use to be mostly equipment and gear and is now is also broed out. At least yours don't have 20s and 3 light bars....oh, and it's a Toyota.

I assume you will be in south hall with the other tire companies? I will be sure to stop by and check this out in person.

Yes, South Hall. Mopar Alley is now Toyo Tires Tread Pass and that is were it will be.

I have met plenty of cool people at SEMA. I have been lucky enough to take several vehicles and even won "Best Custom Truck" at SEMA in 2007. It's always cool when the "popular kids" want to talk to little 'o me. This is a very mild build for me and I am enjoying a little less stress.

Had the SS Offroad sliders sprayed by Line-X. Mounted the 20 inch SOTA wheels on 33 inch Toyo. Waiting on the front and rear SS Offroad bumpers to come back from Line-X. I think I will install the PowerStop Brakes this weekend.

Mounted the SOTA Offroad 20's on Toyo Open Country 33's. I was test fitting for rubbing but had NO issues. The wheels have 5.5 inches of back space. Im still waiting for the bumpers to get finished at Line-X

Only 8 days until late I have to be in Vegas. All Southern Style Offroad equipment installed. Just have to install big brakes, wheels/tires, roof rack, wire lights and winch and red pinstripe.

Everything is done. I spent all day cleaning and detailing. Ill be driving it to Vegas for SEMA and give it one more wipe down.

That SSO rear bumper blends well with the Bushwacker flares. That was one of the concerns that made me order the CBI bumper instead. I do love my SSO front bumper, and they do high quality work.

Yes. I had to cut the rear Bushwacker flares to match up but was not a big deal. You have a nice rig!

Any wind noise with that roof rack? Also, is it made of steel or aluminum?

I didn't see a reply to your question, but I am still half asleep...

The rack is aluminum. There is very minimal wind noise with mine. However, there is some wind buffering above 60MPH on the moonroof that causes it to rattle very slightly. I believe this is because my rack my be too far forward, but I haven't been annoyed enough to take the time to adjust it.

I love seeing that rack with a light bar on it. How difficult was it to mount it in front of the wind deflector?

I have the same rack, and I have been considering mounting a light bar in front of the wind deflector as opposed to on top (where all the mounting holes are.

Some wind noise but not too bad. I feel like it has less wind noise after mounting the light bar, weird but true. Not hard to install. Just took some measurements to center it and drilled two holes. I too started with it up top but looked funny.

Made it to SEMA. Put it in the Toyo Tires Tread Pass booth. I'll post more pictures when the show starts.

Looks great man. I especially like how you wrapped the hood and top part of the sides. Looks better in person. Also love the SSO sliders and front bumper with the Line-X. Looks great. This wasn't a high dollar build comparatively, but for what it is I think it looks damn good. Good job.

Looks great. You stated you added "big brakes"? Was it just larger rotors? I see they are cross drilled.
