MikeDBC's Build/Adventure Thread

After and long and exhaustive search, I finally took delivery of my 2017 Mag Gray TRD Off Road Premium, Feb 2017. Not to be used as a daily driver, the goal is to create a dependable adventure vehicle to bring the family (wife, 2yr old son, dog) far off the beaten path.

When dreaming of my ultimate T4R build, I end up seeing it as my passport to lazy summer days on the Baja coast, sipping beers in between surf sessions. How often I can step away from work will ultimately dictate my Baja excursions, but I'd like to have a bulletproof set-up to get me there and back.

I also want it to sit in the driveway and remind me to get out of town more. To be able to go weelin' for the hell of it. Get me outside of my comfort zone on a trail run with some of you local lunatics! The goal is to have a good time and build a sweet rig along the way.

Headed out to Anza Borrego yesterday 3/11/17, with the rest of Southern California, to see the super bloom and baptize the 4runner. Saw some cool stuff and did some off roading through Yaqui Wells Primitive Campground out to Grapevine Canyon. Truck handled great!

Traffic in and out of Borrego was terrible!

Headed over to Fallbrook to visit my sister in law. Made a few laps through the old avocado orchard above her house. The grass was thigh high spots in. Stock 4runner handled beautifully through the soft, wet dirt and grass

Welcome and looking forward to seeing your Rig come together.

Here is a search I just put together for someone else looking for wiring help. This should at least get you started on figuring out how to wire everything. Sounds like you will have a similar set up to mine.

Thanks WODWorldWide! I appreciate the help

Not a lot of build out or adventure lately... have been waiting on King delivery to install the suspension, etc. Today is the day they showed up! Super stoked. Can't wait to get this stuff on the rig.
Red, White & Blue

Piles of boxes, just waiting for the Kings

Got the suspension, skids, sliders, wheels and tires put on 5/11/17. Ready to get the rig on the trail!

Climbed to Santiago Peak (5,689ft) this afternoon (5/12/17). In through Silverado Canyon, out via Indian Truck Trail. Truck handles like a champ... I put her through the wringer. Super stoked on the setup!

Took my son and dog with me for the maiden voyage. We had an awesome time, but I felt underprepared. No high lift jack, no full size spare, no comms, solo run. The descent from Santiago Peak onto Main Divide Trail had me white knuckled at times. Talus rock slides, deep cross ruts and trail erosion made it interesting. Now wish I had stopped for pictures, but it didn't seem like a good idea at the time. Next time!

Here are some pics from the adventure.

Swung up through Holy Jim to check out the creeks

Climbing out of the Silverado Canyon chaparral into the pine forest.

Views from the top. Thats a long way down! :wow:
