When I ordered the HID lights, I also upgraded the rear hatch lights to LED lights from [MENTION=12905]XenonDepot[/MENTION]. I wanted to see how I liked the light color and output before I considered changing the interior lights out entirely.​

Parts used:
- Philips LED 3022
- Second glass of Knee Deep Midnight Hoppyness

The lights are removed by using a flat head screw driver on the driver's side of both lights. Lightly pry under the clear lens, then you should see a metal tab that you will push towards the center of the light. It will unclip the light from the hatch, and pivot down. The clear lens unclips with 4 clips on the outside of the light housing. The replacement of the bulbs in straight forward from there. If it doesn't work, turn it around and try again.

My impressions are that the color shift is very nice switching to the LEDs, but the light output I don't think is any brighter than the stock halogens. I don't think this will deter me from swapping the rest of the cab lights to LED, however. Thanks [MENTION=12905]XenonDepot[/MENTION]!

Awesome and tasteful build, really like what youve done. I am about to pull the trigger on the interior LEDS, but your comment on the 3022 Festoons brightness for rear hatch/dome light has me hesitating. Do you know of any other options that would work well with the Phillips 194s? Thanks!

This last weekend, my girlfriend the dog and I took a drive down the central coast of California to meet up with my sister and her boyfriend for some dispersed camping in the Los Padres National Forest, south of Big Sur.

Continuing on, the road winds through the redwoods, along a few creeks, up into the chaparral environment on the high grassy plains, then back down to Highway 1 at Andrew Molera State Beach.

Dammit, I love California.

I haven't tried other bulbs, but honestly, the Philips festoons have worked just fine after living with them for an extended period. They're not "light of god" bright as I have seen with some other LED applications, but for the day to day they work just fine. I wouldn't hesitate. The problem with the lack of brightness in the cargo area I have found, isn't the bulbs, but the fact that there isn't a light in the cargo area. That's the bigger problem. I know that Sylvania has a 3022 festoon out, and available at most Autozones. But I haven't felt the need to try them out.

I finished my upper grille light bar install last weekend and finally got to take some good photos of it all lit up and just with the amber backlighting on. I will be finalizing some wire routing, as I did things temporarily until my wire sheathing came in the mail. After that, a full write-up right here as per usual.

We're another family with 4runner/Outback coupling! They go together like PB&J. Can't go wrong with the Outback, I have a 2012 2.5i Premium and it used to make it back and forth to Tahoe all the time from the bay area no issues (its even been x-country twice). The 3.6 is a sweet engine though if fuel economy isn't an issue! My one piece of advice if she goes to test drive the Subaru's is decide whether or not you want to deal with the fuel economy of the V6 before hand. If you test drive both you'll never get the 4 cylinder. Its kind of like all of the talk of the people on here who have had 4th gen V8's before the V6. Lucky for me I never drove the 3.6L until after I bought it and that was when gas was $4.50 a gallon in Cali, so I was still ok with the 2.5.

Well I will make sure to have her drive the 3.6 then! My mom has an '05 with the H-6 and that thing moves pretty quickly. I can only imagine that they have improved on it in the years since. And for right now, gas prices are ok, so a few MPG doesn't really hurt :bluejump:

My parents have the '06 H-6..lol! We have always had Subbies in the family, and could be a Subaru commercial. I was brought home from the hospital as a baby in a Subaru station wagon 35 years ago...and both of my kids were also brought home from the hosptial in our Outback Station wagon.

Last spring I tried trading my Outback in on a 2016 3.6R, but we couldn't come close on trade in price or discount on a new one. I really liked driving it, and there's a guy out there that has turned a 5th gen Outback into a serious off-road capable machine. Once my 4Runner arrives, I'm gonna really miss my Outback. Hell, I still miss the 2002 WRX wagon I bought new and just sold last spring.) The turbo requires premium gas, and I only get 21-22 MPG with my racks on. So moving to the 4Runner with lower MPG but cheaper gas will be a wash.

An Outback is on my wife's list of potential next cars, so maybe we won't be out of the Subaru family for long.

A funny aside; Last summer, before we took our six week cross country travels, I had applied for Subaru's Ambassador program, thinking the trip would be a great bit of PR for them, but I never heard back. About a month ago, just after I ordered my new 4Runner, I got a reply saying they had been overwhelmed with applicants, and that they were not looking for additional ambassadors at this time.

A fellow Santa Cruz rider! Awesome! Mountain biking and 4Running go hand in hand as I am discovering. Hey, glad you're getting some use and advice from my build, that's what it's here for! Which lights are you talking about? The HID's? They're worth their weight in gold. A seriously good upgrade that has awesome bang for buck. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to help!

Sure thing! It's mounted with RAM equipment, and held in a Lifeproof cradle. Here's a few photos:

I am the same way. 4Runner is named Dorothy (homage to the 90's classic Twister), and the bike is the Dark Knight.

Is the mount on your dash bolted on or a sticky? Looks bolted. I just got my ram mount with sticky circle thing n hoping it will hold but yours might be better with the bolts esp that your looks to be inline with your dashboards lines. Thanks in advance.
