Bumpers & snorkle ordered

I took the plunge and ordered steel offroad bumpers for my 4runner.
Sadly, not as much for offroading. But because of the horrible drivers when I'm in town.
Almost hit head on going around a left-hand corner. Car going the other way was all the way in my lane.
The snorkle because the intake to the airbox will now be more exposed.

Steel bumpers are going to be objectively less safe in a head-on at any real speed.

ARB is the only bumper I know of that maintains any semblance of crash safety rating.

You go from having crumplezones to having a giant piece of steel bolted directly to the frame taking the impact. You are more likely to total the truck or be hurt now that all the force is transfered directly and immediately to the frame.

Same for rear bumpers.

If you haven't already, you may want to look into heavier springs for the front end at least...those steel bumpers are heavy. The stock front coils are not going to like that bumper at all...

FWIW, I have an aluminum winch mount, a 12K Smittybilt, and 2/0 cables to hook it all up, along with an auxiliary battery. I had to change up to heavier front coils to get my lift height back...

I installed the Eibach Pro 2.0 kit. Adjustable coilovers in front.

I'll let their car crumple twice as much for me.

I was once sitting, tail end Charlie, at a stop light in my 68 F100. It doesn't have crumple zones. I was rear-ended by an 80's Chevy Cavalier at around 30+ mph. They were towed away. I had some red paint from their car on my bumper. Zero damage to my pickup.
With the approach & departure angles plus lifted ride height, and the aerodynamic styling of new cars, they'll probably go underneath me. So me tipping over is a possibility

Didn't think I had a picture of the back of above mentioned pickup. I do. I still own & drive it.
A rather stout bumper they hit. I waited around until their friend with a tow truck arrived and removed them. Then I drive away. Should police wander by and butt in, I didn't want to be in trouble for "leaving the scene".
No information exchanged as they had no license or insurance. Didn't speak English. No damage to me so no info needed.
People drive less safe now because we've lessened the consequences. Replace the pillow (air bag) with a 3 foot barbed steel spike that deploys under the same circumstances. You won't see as many idiots tailgating.

my front demello bumper has paid for itself in 2 parking lot hit and runs and 1 low speed accident on a surface street.

My rear bumper has taken a few small bumps to trees, light poles, garage walls, retaining walls, etc....

yeah they are worth it, if you live in a area that gives driver licenses to meth heads and illegal aliens w/ no car insurance.

I live in an "open range" area so cattle in the road is a regular occurrence.
Also wild donkeys aren't unusual.
I ordered the CBI "adventure" front bumper. It has the hoops around the grille & headlights.
The CBI rear bumper I ordered doesn't have the swing outs.

I was informed that TJM is no longer shipping any products (the snorkle in my case) to the US.
The supplier refunded me and I found another US vendor that had it in stock.

Snorkle arrived today. Have the winch & windshield washer tank skid.
Awaiting the bumpers, but by then it will be too hot to work on the car.
