Bumping starter to break loose crank bolt

We are trying to bump the starter to break loose the crank bolt but the starter wont...start. We hear the 'click' sound but nothing else happens. We already disconnected all the plugs from the main harness, is this the reason?

1986 Toyora 4runner 4WD 22RE fuel injected.

Update: Took head off and continued ahead... Cylinder 2 and 3 have vertical give and locks up on the way down (broken rod?)

SOMEHOW we broke the laws of physics and science, how did the lobes on the camshaft get grounded down??? They are no longer lobes but small hills...

Wow, good luck, sounds like you have some work to do. I guess you didn't get the crank bolt out. yeah I think you have to have the engine harness plugged in to get power to the starter. once you get it to work, it'll loosen that bolt easily. Have fun with the rest of the disassembly, post pics of the damage

Sounds like it was oil starved maybe, I'd pull the oil pan and check the pickup tube for clogging.....or it could have just been low on oil a long time.

It's not the original head and everything. We heard people sometimes use softer metals when making those. We have the oem one and may use that. Pistons 2 and 3 have give.
