Bumpy Ride 3rd generation 4-Runner

I have a 1998 Runner and I recently noticed that my ride is very bumpy I have Tokiko shocks if I replace them well my ride be better? Thinking about getting some Bilsteins to replace my Tokiko. Do you think that would make a big difference?

Stock springs? Guaranteed they are shot. get new ones.

Billys are great shocks, expensive, but very nice.

Just replaced my stock coil springs, stock struts and stock shocks Monday. Went with Bilstein HDs on all 4 corners and OEM Toyota coil springs front and rear. I have a 2WD 2001 SR5 Sport Runner. I was not looking for a lift, just a better ride. What a difference! She rides much, much better. The billys are stiffer but so glad I did it...finally. You will pay more for the Bilsteins but they are worth the money. Good luck!

Did the give you any lift on your 4-Runner? I also got a price quote for Bilstein which will give me a 2in lift and replace my shocks for 900 is this a good price?

Shocks don't cause lift, that's all on the coils. The only shocks that do are the front bilstien 5100.. and that's if you have them set that high, which is not necessary.

Those shocks take a while to break in. I put mine on last summer and they were very harsh for the first 3-5k miles. Now, I'm liking the ride more but I still feel the potholes. Handling is great.

I agree the handling is much better than with stock 150k mile shocks. I have about 4k miles on the shocks but my problem is the rear springs. As soon as I put a little load (3 passengers) the 4runner behaves totally different over bumps and not in a good way.

Thanks 4-Ripcord I'm very new to lifting my 98 4-Runner do you have any suggestions on what brand or any part numbers for getting 4 new springs and also Billy's shocks? I'm looking for a at least a 2in lift and a better ride that I currently have now.

If you are looking for a 2-3 inch lift I would suggest toytec lifts Ultimate kit with the Bilsteins. you can also go with the OME kit from them and use Bilsteins in the rear. The other option is look at a Sonoran steel kit. Since you are in So Cal just order the kit and one of us locals can help install. We have done this for a few memebers here and works out well.
