Bumpy Ride Around 50 mph (When OD Kicks in)

Hi All,

I noticed a very slight stumble around 50 mph when I'm barely on the gas. It happens when OD kicks in and stops if I turn off OD or bump up my RPMs. It's not quite a stumble - it sort of feels similar to driving down a washboard road. No loss of power, the ride just feels slightly bumpy.

I'm thinking it could be my TC. First time I changed my trans fluid after buying it, the fluid was pitch black, but that was a few years ago. No problems/symptoms until recently.

Question to you guys: how could I test to verify that it's my TC? Is there anything it else it could be that I should check for? How hard is the TC to change myself?

The torque converter locks around 50mph with light throttle. My first thought was actually some other issue (engine?) that starts passing vibrations through the drivetrain once the converter locks.

You might be able to get the same thing to happen around 40mph with OD off, when the converter locks at a similar RPM in 3rd.

I do believe the ECU would set a CEL for torque converter lock if there is an issue with that (slipping when commanded to be locked), though I'm not 100% sure.

I will try today and see if I can replicate it at ~40 mph with OD off. Thanks for the input Charlie
