Burn rubber smell on 2011 5th gen

this is my 2nd thread since i purchased new 2011 5th gen limited.
first one was regarding to break pad sounds.

since i got it i smell rubber burning smell from front. i took it to dealer service on last week, they told me it is plastic bag went under the car. they didn't even look at my car. so i went home drove another week. still smell so bad that when i park at garage, i had to open the garage door open little. it gives me headache.

today i took it to dealer again and this time they look under the car. they told me nothing is found. engine inspection went ok and all is good. but i still smell rubber burning really bad.

what do you this smell caused? anyone have similar issue?

You're probably just running low on windshield wiper fluid.

Just kidding man, if you took it to the dealer once and they claimed it was a burnt bag underneath... just take it in again, let them drive it, and smell it themselves. It's under warranty so they'll fix whatever could be happening, but it I haven't heard of this happening.

Maybe you accidentally left the parking brake on?
Maybe you accidentally have ATrac on?

took to service twice already. they said nothing found underneath.
of course i've checked parking break and atrac...lol
 
hmmmm.... but did they confirm there was a foul smell, or are they saying they see and smell nothing wrong?
 
do you have smell when parked or on the move? Is the smell stronger after you drive for a while?

Or maybe it's just somebody scared skunk under your truck? : )

i don't smell while driving...since it is less than 2 wks old. only new car smell.
when i park on garage, it smell alot. rubber burning smell. not sure what is it... but bothers me so much.
 
Funny you should mention this. Mine smelled like burning rubber after driving it. I couldn't smell it inside of the car but it definitely stunk up my garage. It wasn't really bad but definitely noticeable. The smell went away after a couple of months. I call it the "break-in period smell". Is your garage sealed tight, meaning does it have dry wall and an insulating/thick garage door? If so, the lack of air circulation in the garage will exacerbate the smell.
I've noticed that every brand new car I've bought had their own smell during the break-in period. If the dealer says that they can't find anything, I'd give it a couple of months and if the smell persists, take it in again. My .02.
 
I also experienced the noxious burnt rubber smell, it turned out to be grease spun out from the front driveshaft onto the exhaust pipe. After letting the exhaust cool down I scraped off the cooked grease from the exhaust pipe and the smell went away.
 
Same smell in my garage. I'm thinking its the armor all type stuff they put on the tires at the dealer. I can't smell it unless its in my garage. I don't exactly spend a lot of time in my apartment garage so it doesn't exactly bother me.
 
A lot of the trucks come with the "Toyo Guard" package (VIN etching in glass, interior treatment, undercoating, etc.). It could be some of that undercoating goop that got on the exhaust system which takes a while to completely burn off.
 
When I bought my new vehicle the dealer told me several times not to be concerned about odors coming from the vehicle when it was new. My vehicle has some new "burning in" odors that are only noticeable when parked in the garage. I'm not going to worry about it. If for some reason the odors don't go away in a couple months or something new pops up, then I would get concerned. The vehicle is under warranty, so anything that goes wrong is covered.

That's probably the trick. So far all my trips have been relatively short with the exception of one 50 mile RT drive. I've only put 300 miles on this thing in two weeks, so I haven't even burned a tank of gas through it. Need to find some time to get out on a road trip with this beauty!:lookout:
 
I have the same problem on my 2010 Sr5, burnt rubber smell coming from the right rear wheel well only. I also have a vibration coming from the same area (the right rear tire). Can anyone tell me what this might be? I have only noticed this after the first service.
 
For what its worth, I test drove two camrys over the weekend and noticed the same burning smell while walking behind the vehicles after driving them. I was going to ask the salesman about it, but I wouldn't have believed anything he would have said anyways.
 
In the summer I get something similar off my 2004 still ! I have always suspected a rubber bracket that the exhaust hangs off at the rear, which likely gets hot from the exhaust and gives a burning rubber odor.
 
We also had a rubber smell coming from under our 2011 SR5 after we drove it for a lil bit it finally went away. We almost have 1200 miles on it now and no more smell.
