Burned by a Lexus RX

I know my Runner is a slug, but it sucks to be racing up a hill from stop lights trying to keep my lane just to have the Lexus that was in the other lane cruise past and take over my lane in front of me.

:dammit:

It's a double lane that everyone knows turns into a single lane at the top of the hill. If I gave it any more gas the engine was going to red line and blow up. As is, it was blowing steam, oil, bolts and chunks of metal all over the place.

I had to go driving on rocky roads all morning after that just to calm down my ego.

Lexus's are amazing cars.

Your (& my) 4Runner is 3800 lbs truck underpowered by 189 HP V6 and is geared like a truck. These things are not fast :)

Mine is a little peppy even at 204K miles but that is because I have Cold-Air intake, exhaust and Downey headers.

This is concerning.

Whats the saying,, you can go fast but I can go anywhere :driving:

I test drove an RX back in '99 when I bought my rig. It WAS amazingly quick to accelerate. The cons: no manual trans and I believe it is a unibody cross-over type SUV. I wanted a real body-on-frame machine. They are just different vehicles.

My girlfriend had a RX300 (her mom owns it now) and that thing is quick. I was always willing to drive it anywhere. It may have better (smoother) acceleration than my parents V6 4th gen. I have no doubt a RX will smoke a 3rd gen and possibly a 3rd gen with a supercharger.

If you wanted a "fast" SUV then you would get a Porsche Cayenne TurboS 4.8L that puts out 550HP.
0-60 in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of around 175mph.

But that will cost you over $100,000.

I'm happy to stick with I-can-go-anywhere rather than I-can-go-fast-sometimes. It was just so sad the way it unfolded. It's a level start that immediately starts going up up up and up. It's a 50kmph zone, and we were only doing 40-60kmph in our "drag race" and it just wouldn't give anymore power.

I'd get a sports car except that the roads here suck so bad. I still can't understand people who have cars--I even gave up a CR-V I hate the roads so much. Only two road conditions--snow covered or under summer repair. Maybe November has good smooth driving weather before the cycle starts again.

The way i look at it is, if they are going quick enough to get past you and really wanna be in front of you, then you dont have to worry about getting stuck behind them going 30 for the duration of the road.

Haha, I was with my boss one day helping him pick up a brand new Mercedes GL350 Bluetec from the Mercedes dealership. As were waiting for the salesman my boss starts talking to me about his old Porsche. He asks me if I have ever driven on or I would own one. I tell him no to both because I like SUV's. He responds that I should get a Porsche Cayenne then. (At this point I'm making $15/hour for reference) So I kindly ask for a raise, so I could afford one. He just laughed it off and realized It would take 4 years of just my salary to pay it off.

Just think of how much gas

they used doing that just to get 13 ft ahead of you...13ft...

paintball turret?

Maritimer, not that you should, but you could always mount a paintball gun turret and pepper crossovers while they attempt to whiz by unscathed! :hunter:
