Burned spare tire?

Hey All,

Just bought a 2000 T4R. Was checking out the spare tire, and when I lowered it I noticed something unusual...

It has 4 'marks' on the top side (side that would be in contact with the underside of the frame) of the tire. They line up with the 4 points of contact when you have the tire in place... The rubber is actually damaged, kind of like grill marks, and is kind of brownish like it's burnt, and slightly deformed.

It seems like the points of contacts, the 2 crossbars got really hot and damaged the tire. Has anyone heard of this before or have any idea how that could happen?

Thanks,

T

My spare had indents on it where it was in contact with the car. They smoothed out after a 100 miles of driving or so. I'm thinking this is normal.

The problem most likely is that some dirt got trapped between the tire and the crossmembers and eventually, over time, discolored the tire. Something similar happened to mine, and after cleaning off the tire and repainting the rim with some Rustoleum it looked as good as new
