Busted Front Passenger Side drive axle

Busted!... hit the trail, put it 4L and then... Front Passenger Side drive axle complete broken, CV join, outboard boot, bearings, etc.

Obviously I need to replace it, local Toyo Dealer quote $240 for the complete front/passenger side axle. My question, before I replace it with OEM, are there any upgrade/stronger ones? I any consider replacing both sides, for piece of mind.

at the shop we do 175 for an axel and 300 for both, and we havnt really found anything better than OE as far as axle shafts go

of course there are stronger, i don't know names off the top of my head, but you can search around here or more likely yotatech for the brands. The question is .... do you need stronger? how much off roading are you really doing, and what other upgrades do you have.

Total Chaos makes 4340 Chromoly shafts for the 4th gen 4Runners, not sure of any for a 3rd gen though... Def. worth a google-ing though!

i just replaced both of my front axles with reman units from Advance auto parts. $65 a piece, and about 1 hour of my time = good again
